BACK WHEN ADVERTISING WAS WAY BETTER
11.05.08I only ever think of Frank Gifford as a former Monday Night Football announcer and the guy who nailed a TWA stewardess while married to Kathie Lee, so I tend to forget that he was ever an NFL star. (Although to be fair, he was an NFL star before the Super Bowl existed, so it was before sports were relevant.)
And here he is endorsing Lucky Strikes, in the kind of commercial that could only exist in the 1960s. Back when doctors and athletes encouraged you to smoke. And news anchors smoked on air. Basically everyone smoked everywhere all the time. Nurseries, oxygen tents, you name it. Even pets smoked.
In short, people were idiots back then. But damn, did they look cool.
