Why Would Someone Ever Cheat On Shakira?

Written by Ashley Burns / 10.05.11

Gerard Piqué has a lot going for him. He’s 24 years old, plays for FC Barcelona, ladies seem to think he’s fun to look at, and I assume that his huge professional soccer contract also makes him a rather special person. So it shouldn’t surprise anyone that for almost a year, Piqué has been flopping around with Shakira.

It should also not surprise anyone that soccer players really like having sex with as many women as possible, so it makes sense that Mexican tabloids are reporting that Shakira dumped his ass.

Tell me that them hips don’t lie, poorly translated foreign tabloid:

With the owner Piqué was unfaithful to Shakira!, The publication reports that a reliable source informed them that the Colombian singer would have ended her relationship with Spanish player for alleged infidelity of the athlete.

The magazine said the footballer cheated on the singer of “Rabid” with a younger girl.

Shakira and Piqué began their relationship six months ago and released when the Colombian star posted on his Twitter a picture of the two, accompanied by the message “I give you my sun.”

(La Hora via Lainey Gossip)

She actually said, “I give you my sunshine,” but it’s fun to share the Google translation because foreign languages are so funny. The two met at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, but they kept their relationship under wraps until this year. I assume it’s because nobody really cares. I care, though. Why? Oh I think it might have something to do with this…

The Best Football Played In Dallas Since 1995

Written by Brandon Stroud / 08.10.11

Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, has two notable features — a facade that looks like it could start independently spinning and become the Event Horizon at any moment, and an enormous, punt-blocking, mid-field scoreboard that takes up most of the stadium’s free space and threatens to fall and crush us all. Jerry Jones famously refused to move the thing when footballs started striking it. I wonder what he thinks now that soccer players are clipping it?

Enter: FC Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes, incorrectly typo’d on Off The Bench as “Victory Valdez”, making him sound like he’s a character from Cars. During warmups for a match in the Herbalife World Football Challenge, Valdez decided to see if he could boot the ball 90 feet into the air and bang it off the scoreboard. The video above is that effort, and it is impressive. I was wondering what all those soccer jerseys were doing at the Texas Rangers game next door. Kinda wish I’d been around to see this in person.

Maybe the Dallas Stars can play next year’s Winter Classic here and try to ricochet a puck off the screen.

Manchester U. Fans Win This Round

Written by Ashley Burns / 03.16.11

A new study by the social media service FanGager has determined that the “fans” on Manchester United’s Facebook page are the most active of any fan page on Mark Zuckerberg’s cash cow. Out of the Top 15 fan pages listed in the study, Man U. ranks 8th in the actual number of fans at 9,915,504 (as of the study’s end) but the club’s 256,206 “active” fans gives the page the highest active percentage at 2.6%. Finishing second was Justin Bieber’s Facebook fan page, which means that the teenage singer is officially worse than soccer.

According to Wired:

Launched in the U.S. one month ago, FanGager uses Facebook and Twitter open APIs to track social activity and brand engagement. After producing a report for a brand, FanGager offers a selection of applications that allow companies to build fan activity and engagement.

“Brands have been collecting fans and followers for some time,” Eran Gefen, FanGager’s founder and CEO, told Wired.com in a recent interview. “But the real question is not how many fans you have, but how many active and engaged fans you have.”

And that’s true, because the active fans are those who are stupid enough to click on the advertising links that Khloe Kardashian sends out in order to collect $10,000 per click.

Aside from pop culture sensations like Bieber, Glee, Jersey Shore, Ke$ha and Britney Spears, Man U. also topped popular sports pages like Real Madrid C.F. and FC Barcelona, while the Kansas City Royals fan page fell just short*.
