The Miami Heat Had A Victory Dance Party, So The Internet Had Some Fun

Written by Ashley Burns / 06.12.12

"Sorry babe, but I just gotta dance."

After the Miami Heat defeated the Boston Celtics in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Saturday night, Dwyane Wade and LeBron James led their fired up teammates to the locker room for a brief celebratory dance party. They deserved every bounce of it, too, as they fought back from a 3-2 deficit to return to the NBA Finals for a second consecutive year.

But, of course, with the way these Interwebs operate, there was no way that Wade and Co. were going to get away with their childlike glee without a little satire from the people out there with basic video editing skills. After the jump, I’ve got a couple of the videos that popped up – namely of the celebratory variety – and then a few that I made on my own with the help of my Uproxx House Party PlayLOList.

Crank your speakers, because we’re about to get jiggy up in here.

Stay Classy, Celtics Fans

Written by Ashley Burns / 06.08.12

The Miami Heat came hard. LeBron James told everyone who called him “un-clutch” or “non-clutch” or “that dude who doesn’t win sh*t” to kiss his ass. The Eastern Conference Finals are now tied at 3 after the Boston Celtics laid down like speed bumps, and everyone who thought it was a done deal for the Celtics is now back-tracking in the worst way, including the most loyal Celtics fans.

The fans at the Jungle spent money. They expected a win. When it didn’t happen, they became… well, sports fans.

As James left the court with his 45 points and 15 rebounds, some Celtics fans let him know exactly how they felt. By that, I mean they dumped a beer on him.

The ‘Good Job, Good Effort’ Kid Meant It

Written by Ashley Burns / 06.07.12

Two nights ago, after the Miami Heat lost a third straight game to the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals, the Internet was introduced to its newest star – The “Good Job, Good Effort” Kid. We didn’t know much about this young lad, other than he didn’t really understand the enormity of Game 5 and that he has the oblivious enthusiasm of Kenneth from 30 Rock. Either way, people loved hearing him shout that losing effort battle cry as LeBron James and Dwyane Wade sulked off the court.

And thank goodness Ihosvani Rodriguez of the Sun Sentinel still has that investigatory urge, because the aftermath of “Good Job, Good Effort” was a vulture-like corpse cleaning of Internet tough guys fighting over who ran the phrase to Custom Ink the fastest. Rordriguez discovered the true identity of the young boy, and got to the bottom of his enthusiasm. Was it sincere or was it trolling?

“For those people who thought I was being sarcastic, you’re wrong,” [9-year old Jack] Meyer said at his family’s Coral Gables home Wednesday. “I was being enthusiastic. I was saying the truth. I would never hurt the Heat’s feelings like that.”

“Based on their expressions, they didn’t seem happy being beaten by four points. I wanted to cheer them up,” he said. “I really meant it.”

Good lord, that’s adorably refreshing. Granted, I doubt James, Wade, or any Heat fan feels that way, but it’s still a little heartwarming once the laughter subsides.

Of course, as we all know, memes die like matches in the wind these days, so his fame should be expiring as soon as the ECF ends, whether tonight or after a thrilling Game 7, like my gut tells me. Regardless, I can only hope Jack carries his enthusiasm over into next season after the Heat either trade one of the Big 3 or allow Wade to continue his downward spiral into the angriest man on the planet.

Hipster Amar’e Stoudemire Watched The Miami Heat Meltdown Continue

Written by Ashley Burns / 06.06.12

Perhaps meltdown is too Skip Bayless-y of a way to describe the Miami Heat losing three straight games to the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals, but it’s rather apt at this point. After winning 94-90, the old ass Celtics are in control of their own destiny to eventually lose to the San Antonio Spurs or Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Finals. However, I imagine that the “us against the refs” narrative that both teams’ fans are playing will guarantee us a Heat win in Game 6 and a Game 7 for the ages.

In the meantime, Game 5 gave us the above wonderful picture of New York Knicks forward Amar’e Stoudemire courtside with his new fiancée and eventual Basketball Wives star, Alexis Welch, who is already the mother of Stoudemire’s three kids. It also gave us a classic moment in “Nice move, dipsh*t” when the NBA on ESPN people accidentally posted this picture to Facebook.

10 Reasons Why Rajon Rondo Is Making The Eastern Conference Finals So Much Fun

Written by Ashley Burns / 06.05.12

I’m still crawling out of my vacation cocoon, so I’ve been thinking all day about which aspects of the incredible Eastern and Western Conference Finals series that I most wanted to talk about today. Right off the bat, there was last night’s incredible finish in San Antonio, as the Oklahoma City Thunder barely held off the Spurs in what was one of the most amazing and intense 3-minute stretches in recent memory.

Or we could discuss LeBron James and his whole “I don’t foul out” attitude as people heaped blame on him and Dwyane Wade for the Boston Celtics tying their series at 2 each with the Miami Heat the other night.

But I’d rather talk about my favorite thing about the entire playoffs so far – Rajon Rondo. Normally, I’m not much of a Rondo fan, because he seems like a dick. And from what I can tell from interviews and highlights, he is definitely a dick. Without that dick, though, the Celtics are already done and the Heat have their feet up, waiting for the Thunder and Spurs to kill each other.

So instead of going back and recapping everything that has happened, I just wanted to pay a little respect to Rondo with my favorite highlights of him through this ECF thus far, because he’s the only reason this series has been so entertaining.

How Many Sports Metaphors Can We Mix Into This Dwyane Wade Highlight?

Written by Ashley Burns / 05.29.12

Dwyane Wade's greatest highlight.

If the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder gave us The Avengers on Sunday, then the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics gave us, at best, Italian Spider-Man yesterday. Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals was as much of a dick-measuring contest as it was a basketball game, with the Celtics trying desperately to prove their “Big 3” could hang with Miami’s “Big 2 and That Other Guy Who Will Play Again Eventually” and the Heat proving they didn’t need that other guy to win.

The Heat rolled to an easy 93-79 victory, holding the Celtics to less than 20 points in the first, third and fourth quarters, but it’s also worth mentioning that the Celtics blew the Heat away in one specific category – technical fouls. Five to the Heat’s zero, to be specific. Hell, even Miami fans had to chuckle at the absurdity of this T on Doc Rivers. But aside from sparking a “David Stern wants the Heat to win” conversation – and by all means, have at it – I actually enjoyed the outstanding play of Dwyane Wade and LeBron James.

The pair combined for 54 points and plenty of individual highlights – my favorite probably being this exchange between James and Kevin Garnett – but I simply loved the deep pass by Wade to James because of the 8 zillion “quarterback controversy” jokes it launched. The Miami Dolphins are just way too easy to make fun of.
