Sorry, FOX. It's not just New York teams that will be going to the playoffs this year. The Tigers — expected by many to collapse down the stretch — clinched a playoff berth with their win over the Royals on Sunday. Man, I can't wait for the baseball playoffs. I just can't get enough Joe Buck. Some people say too much smarm is a bad thing, but that's just because they've watched him for longer than 12 seconds and have some modicum of taste.
Anyway, good luck to the Tigers. They've been my favorite team this year every since Mike Hargrove turned a resoundingly mediocre Mariners team into a just plain bad one. Unlike the M's, Detroit has a real manager, an ancient badass who smokes all the time and made a raw young team one of the best in baseball just three years after they lost 119 games. Pretty much the only person in Hollywood who could play Jim Leyland is Clint Eastwood, because leathery old badasses are about as common as strippers with college degrees. Believe me, I've been searching for years.
