Everyone Needs To Pray That Kate Upton Just Started A New Meme

Written by Ashley Burns / 03.04.13

For all of its pros and cons, Twitter is, at best, a valuable educational device. For example, on Saturday evening, a few of us took notice of a re-Tweet from our beloved Hall of Fame Celebrity Sports Fan of Every Year, Kate Upton. The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover model recognized a Russian girl named Ania, who Tweeted an image of herself paying tribute to Upton’s most recent SI cover, as you can see above. Then Twitter did its Twitter thing from there.

Within an hour, Ania’s follower count had jumped by several hundred, which is a little lower than unexpected, but I guess even the biggest Twitter pervs have an off-night. By this morning, the aspiring “mail order bride” was up to 1,362 followers, and she had already gone ahead and locked her account, only after she had openly Tweeted with Sports Illustrated and bragged about her “doppelganger” RT-ing her.

Ania’s 15 seconds of Twitter fame have come and gone, but I’d like to make a plea to our beloved Upton and all of the 18-and-up girls out there who aspire to be like her – let’s make Uptoning the new meme. Attractive girls everywhere can pick their favorite pictures of Kate and they can go out and recreate them. I can’t imagine there’s a single man out there who would object to this, and if there is, he should be monitored by the government because he’s probably Al Qaeda.

These NBA Doppelganger GIFs Are Pretty Terrifying And Accurate

Written by Ashley Burns / 09.21.12

I know that banner image isn’t a GIF, but I still haven’t taken the class on GIF editing through South New Hampshire State Tech’s amazing online program. Either way, it’s my effort to join in the fun of one of my latest favorite Tumblrs that friends have passed along to me. Today’s delightful meme is NBA Doppelgangers, which as the name suggests is a site dedicated to taking NBA players and finding celebrities that they look like. You know, like Dwight Howard and a cat. That Dwight, a big ol’ cat.

Among my favorite Doppelgangers that the site’s creator(s) has offered up are:

Russell Westbrook and Nicki Minaj
Anderson Varejao and Raggedy Ann
Chris Bosh and Godzilla
Chris Bosh and Jar Jar Binks
Jonas Valanciunas and C-Tates
Phil Jackson and Ned Flanders
Shaquille O’Neal and a Lego

And there are plenty more, some hilarious and one that is very familiar that I swear I’ve seen before, but my favorite part is the face-shifting GIFs.

Both amusing and frightening, these GIFs are pretty great, especially the Kyle Korver one because it’s true. In fact, it could be a picture of Korver morphing into another picture of Korver and I’d still say… well, you’ll see.

Which Is The Real Ted Leonsis?

Written by JOSH Z / 04.16.10

THE ted leonsises

Washington Capitals owner Ted Leonsis saw something bizarre after his team lost to Montreal in the first round of the NHL playoffs last night. Himself. Or, someone bearing a resemblance, anyway.

Marty Siegel, of course, is not technically Ted Leonsis, but he’s got more than enough hockey cred. He’s an original Caps season ticket holder, and has stories of sneaking his son into the Cap Centre on his shoulders. He still skates, running an old-timers team in Ashburn. His sons play hockey, too. At 64, he’s 11 years older than Leonsis, but his sons are always telling him how much he looks like the owner.

“They have no idea,” Evan shouted into his cellphone a few feet from his dad. “They think it’s him. I’m not exaggerating.”–DC Sports Bog.

The real Leonsis was not amused, addressing the situation in a post on his blog titled “Identity Theft.”

Not sure how I am supposed to react so I won’t other than to say, please email him after the loss last night. He was responsible for this rebuild and for the poor playoff performance and he deserves all of the angst and rage. Thank you. –Ted’s Take.

By the way, the real Leonsis is on the left. I think this sort of thing should happen more often. I can’t wait to see the Drunk Jerry Jones lookalike. Thanks to Jack for the heads-up.
