We Now (Kind Of) Know The Truth Behind The Lil Wayne And Miami Heat Beef

Written by Ashley Burns / 02.21.13

While most NBA fans are probably glued to Chris Broussard’s Twitter account to check out his breaking NBA trade deadline news that Yahoo!’s Adrian Wojnarowski already broke 5 minutes earlier, some people are still trying to get to the bottom of the season’s biggest controversy – Lil Wayne’s beef with the Miami Heat.

In case you forgot, Weezy claimed that he was removed from a recent Heat game because he was cheering for his favorite team, the Los Angeles Lakers. That’s his story – he was simply cheering for the Lakers in the Heat’s arena and the police made him leave for that. Just that. Not because he also allegedly threatened another fan by motioning that he had a gun. Simply because he was cheering for the Lakers.

Since then, the Heat revealed that Wayne left on his own accord, but the rapper still insisted that he’d been banned by the NBA from all league events, which led some conspiracy theorists to believe that noted Illuminati front man and Brooklyn Nets minority owner Jay Z was behind it all. The NBA – where rappers being bigger news than players happens.

News Story Of The Year: Man Tebowed After Pushing Kid From Tractor… Or Did He???

Written by Ashley Burns / 08.31.12

In a bizarre news story that is spreading across the Intertubes like wildfire, 17-year old Josh Ehrenberg from Shenango, Pennsylvania recently filed a police report after a man assaulted him while he was mowing the lawn. Big deal, right? Well, the attacker was allegedly driving by and stopped his car, just to get out, run up to Josh, and clothesline him off of the riding mower. Still not enough? How about if the mystery assailant committed all of the above and then celebrated by Tebowing? That’s Ehrenberg’s story, according to one of the stranger Smoking Gun reports of the year.

The car’s driver–who investigators describe as “a taller male, bald, wearing glasses”–exited his vehicle and approached the boy. The suspect then “knocked the juvenile off the lawn mower and assaulted him in the front yard of the residence,” according to police.

As the suspect walked back to his car (“possibly a 1980′s Chrysler New Yorker maroon in color”), he was observed “stopping and kneeling down as if in prayer (a ‘Tebow’),” noted cops. The man then fled the New Castle crime scene.

Additionally, WPXI Channel 11 News in Pittsburgh picked this story up, because Tim Tebow means ratings, even in little old Lawrence County. WPXI’s Gordon Loesch – who I assume introduces himself to people by saying, “Haha, no, I’m not the guy from Burn Notice, but I… I get that a lot” – has the shocking story that could possibly kill your entire family.

Stephen A. Smith Needs New Sources

Written by Ashley Burns / 07.05.10

steve

July 8 can’t come fast enough. Until NBA free agents can actually sign with the teams that are making the offers – Joe Johnson is staying in Atlanta with a max deal, Amar’e Stoudemire was offered 5 years and $100 million by the Knicks, Dirk Nowitzki is reportedly staying with the Dallas Mavericks, etc. – reporters, analysts and all-around jackasses will continue to “report” what their “sources” are telling them. Like Stephen A. Smith, for instance.

The former ESPN and Philadelphia Inquirer employee and current host of a FOX Sports radio show, Smith openly bragged one week ago that his “source” told him that Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh were a done deal for the Miami Heat. This became huge news (I even wrote about it) and the whirlwind of speculation and rumors has become ridiculous. Smith, of course, was wrong and has since backtracked via Twitter, despite not actually taking credit for his false reporting. Instead, he actually blames Bosh for making him look bad. But hey, that’s why he gets paid the big bucks.

Make me believe in credible journalism again, LA Times:

Phil Jackson’s Daughter Is A Liar

Written by Ashley Burns / 07.02.10
"Oh I'll make you stay, baby. I'll make you stay good."

"Oh I'll make you stay, baby. I'll make you stay good."

While LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and the rest of the free agent class are wooed by horny GMs, three playoff teams have since solidified their coaching concerns. Doc Rivers informed the Boston Celtics that he’ll stick around another year, while the Cleveland Cavaliers hired Byron Scott after falling flat on other coaching pursuits. But the man of the hour is 11-time NBA champion Phil Jackson (pictured above with his ladyfriend Jeanie Buss), who has confirmed that he will coach the Los Angeles Lakers for at least one more year. Meanwhile, the Minnesota Timberwolves are very interested in bringing Red Auerbach out of retirement.

Jackson’s announcement contrasts a previous claim by his daughter Chelsea that he was done coaching. This makes her the second worst family member at predicting retirement, ranked far behind Brett Favre’s eight-month-old niece Violet. What kind of inside scoop is “potty poopy pee” anyway?

Someone grab a shovel and fuel the hyperbole machine for the L.A. Times’ Bill Plaschke:
