The Indiana Pacers Are Enjoying Their Stay In Orlando

Written by Ashley Burns / 05.04.12

The Orlando Magic and Indiana Pacers have one of the more understated and heated rivalries building in the NBA, but nobody really talks about it because it’s the Magic and the Pacers. Yawwwwwwwwn, amiright? Speaking of yawns, Danny Granger and a few of his Pacers teammates are probably a little tired this morning since they were out partying in Orlando until 2:45 a.m. Big deal, because I’ll bet Chris Duhon is still out drinking right now.

But it is a bit of a big deal, because while leaving Club 23, Pacers backup center Kyrylo Kesenko was confronted by some Orlando “fans” – and I use quotes because at 2:45 a.m. they’re really just random assh*les looking for a fight – and one even pushed the 7-footer. Then all heck broke loose. Heck, I say!

More from TMZ, “As Kyrylo tried to walk away from the situation … the mob grew in numbers and the taunts became louder.

That’s when Kyrylo’s teammate Danny Granger charged towards the clubgoer … only to be restrained by some of his friends.” (Via TMZ and their ridiculous love for ellipses.)

I’ve included the poor quality cell phone cam video of the altercation after the jump, and I think TMZ is making Granger out to be a bit more badass than he actually he is. Either way, I’m not one to preach about grown men knowing better than to go out partying, but if you’re as recognizable as Granger or, better yet, you’re a 7-foot European dude, people are probably going to talk sh*t.

I know I would. But from like two blocks away, because I’m not stupid.

Granger Smelt It, Turkey Dealt It

Written by Ryan Walsh / 08.31.10

What is that smell? I detect citrus with a hint of methane.

Team USA forward Danny Granger has been spending time in Turkey this summer for the FIBA World Basketball Championships, and unfortunately for him, he left his pumpkin pie Yankee Candle at home. Danny has been complaining via twitter about the stench of Istanbul.

smellin like dead donkeys… no joke –Twitter via USA Today

I’ve been a city slicker for most of my life, but I’ve never heard of species decomposing differently. Danny’s offended nostrils also have a problem with the hygienic standards of the Turks. A steady diet of falafels and hookah must give you some pretty serious B.O.

im dying over here…. how come nobody in europe wears deodorant? guess they didnt get the memo –Twitter via USA Today

I did a Google image search for ‘dead donkey’ while brainstorming a Photoshop for this post. While I ended up scratching that plan entirely, I did find something I thought you guys would enjoy. Read the rest of this entry »

DANNY GRANGER IS A BIG STAR. IN INDONESIA.

Written by Matt / 09.17.08

Someone named “Danny Granger” on a team called the “Indiana Pacers” (of the relatively unknown Association of National Basketball) went to Indonesia, where the local populace was tricked into believing he was a huge star.

[Granger] wasn’t expecting this: More than 30 billboards promoting his arrival, police escorts to a sold-out arena, throngs of professional and student journalists asking him questions, and photographers constantly taking his picture.

Or this: The Jawa Pos, one of the country’s biggest newspapers, displaying a full-page photo of Granger in his home Pacers jersey wrapped around a front-page story in what the paper called the “Danny Granger Edition.” [...]

Granger was the lone NBA player to make the trip, and the Pacers’ leading scorer last season relished his celebrity status.

Ah, yes.  The cheers of people from a poor country can give one a sense of euphoria.  But be careful, Danny!  Once you’ve liberated Indonesia from the tyranny of cricket, you better have a plan to create an organized basketball league.  Otherwise NBA player deployments could become much longer and more dangerous.  These are difficult times for the NBA.  I mean, they’ve already bypassed an all-volunteer league and implemented a draft.
