Great News, Dads: Pole Dancing Classes Are Finally Being Offered For Kids

Written by Ashley Burns / 09.12.12

We’ve made no secret of our appreciation of pole dancing as a sport in the past, from coverage of international pole dancing competitions to Chicago Bears fan busting their asses to the superstar athletes at Rick’s Cabaret and their appreciation of this site. Unfortunately, as with most exciting fads, it was only a matter of time before pole dancing as a form of exercise was taken too far, and we can thank the free-wheeling party animals of Vancouver for taking something so beautiful and making it so dirty.

The Twisted Grip dance studio on Vancouver Island has become a global laughing stock because of a special pole dancing class that it offers… for children. Gee, how could anyone have a bad opinion about this great idea?

Twisted Grip owner Kristy Craig told QMI Agency she’s shocked by the amount of negative attention the story has received.

“It’s nothing new,” she said, noting pole-dancing competitions are already offered in Russia and the UK “People need to really look into it before jumping to any conclusions about what I’m offering.” (Via Sun News)

Fair enough, I’ll give her that. And besides, the parents have to make the actual decision to sign their daughters up for this class, so it’s really on them to change the negative perception.

Isiah Thomas Sort Of Talked About The Dream Team Anniversary

Written by Ashley Burns / 06.14.12

Last night, the NBA network aired the highly anticipated Dream Team documentary to celebrate the 20th anniversary of arguably the most talented and dominating team in the history of any sport. As a child of the 80s, I’m fortunate enough to remember watching the Dream Team play and God only knows I wish I still had my Michael Jordan USA jersey, because I’d sell it to a hipster for $500.

But like anything good that is celebrated as legend by the majority, people out there now want to crap all over the Dream Team’s legacy, because Isiah Thomas was snubbed and Michael Jordan is a big ol’ dickhead for keeping him off the team (which is mentioned in the special). Either way, Zeke preemptively took his name out of the debate last night when he issued this statement.

Obviously, Thomas is “taking the high road” because he wants to get back into the NBA, either as a GM, team president, or maybe even a coach again. And he can’t do that if he’s bad-mouthing all of his fellow Hall-of-Famer legends. However, that does not mean this is an invitation for every John Q. Blogger to take up the fight in Thomas’ name.

If he’s really still bitter about it, then he should come out and say, “F*ck those guys, I deserved to be running point for the gold medal team.” Hell, I’d respect him more if he did. But until he does open up about it, let’s stop ruining our childhood memories of what may have been the peak of America’s global dominance at everything.

And in case you missed the special, you can watch it here while it’s available, and you should also check out the NBA’s extra footage. It’s a definite must-watch for any sports fan, or anyone who owned the Mo Money soundtrack.

Thank Goodness, For A Second I Thought There Wouldn’t Be Any BCS Controversy

Written by Ashley Burns / 12.05.11

"Seriously, guys... you've got me at here."

We all knew it was coming. After No. 1 LSU defeated No. 2 Alabama 9-6 on Nov. 5, anyone who has ever watched college football should have been able to see that we would be getting a National Championship rematch, so long as LSU won the SEC Championship. And seaux the Tigers did, whomping the No. 12 Georgia Bulldogs 42-10. I even got a kick out the ESPN scroll reading that LSU would “likely play in National Championship game.” Likely. Because Southern Miss’ win over Houston might have fried the computers.

So here we are, awaiting this rematch of the two SEC rivals. But wait a second… LSU wasn’t the only team that turned its opponent into the receiving end of a donkey show in a conference championship game. Oklahoma State spanked Oklahoma 44-10, so we were all like, “Well they should jump Alabama for No. 2, right?” Haha, you morons, of course not. OK St., despite finishing with a Big 12 championship and therefore a better record than Alabama, was still not good enough by the BCS computer’s standard to take the No. 2 spot. By a margin of .0086.

All right, everybody pick your side. Either you think that Alabama deserves a rematch with LSU because the Tide only lost by 3 points in such an amazing defensive game or you think that Oklahoma State is a conference champion and deserves to play for the title. Either you think that Alabama’s sole loss being to the No. 1 team in the country means more than OSU’s pathetic overtime loss to Iowa State or you think, So what, the Cowboys WON THEIR CONFERENCE. Draw your battle lines in the sand and prepare to argue via Facebook status updates and Twitter for the next month until LSU and Alabama play again.

For the record, I don’t think Alabama has any business playing in the BCS Title Game, but it’s not because the Tide didn’t win the SEC or anything like that. I just love seeing Alabama fans cry.
