Video: A Bear And Monkey Bicycle Race Ended Terribly In Shanghai

Written by Ashley Burns / 05.07.13

You know how people often complain about PETA because its members seemingly spend more time putting naked Brooke Hogan in a cage, trying to convince sports teams to change their names, or chastising Chris Christie for killing a spider, when there are significantly more horrible things happening to animals around the world? Well, buckle up, because if PETA wanted a bold, new cause, I’ve got it for them.

Normally, if you had told me that you had a video of a bear and monkey racing on bicycles, I’d hug you and call you my new best friend. But when said video ends in absolute horror, like with the bear mauling the monkey, then I do not believe I would be as happy. In fact, I’d be downright upset. Probably upset enough that I’d invoke the assistance of PETA.

A video of such a monkey and bear bicycle race was posted to Live Leak on Sunday, and if you are easily upset by a bear attacking a monkey, I’d suggest not looking at this. But I know my audience, so here you go.

With Leather Live Discussion: UFC On Fuel 6

Written by Ashley Burns / 11.09.12

Rich Franklin and Cung Le in the main event.

Since we last discussed Saturday’s UFC on Fuel 6 event – you know, the one with the brand new ring girls that more than make up for a lack of Brittney Palmer and Arianny Celeste – there has been another change of note to the preliminary fight card. Kyung Ho Kang will no longer be fighting Alex Caceres. If Dana White could have replaced Kang with a guy named Kodos, I think the Internet would have exploded. Alas, Kang has been replaced by Motonobu Tezuka, who has won 12 of his last 13. Other than that, the rest of the card hasn’t changed and it still looks fantastic. And for those of you joining us for the 7 PM ET re-broadcast, check out Lobster Monster’s awesome-as-always primer.

In the main event, former UFC middleweight champion Rich “Ace” Franklin will face off against former Strikeforce champion Cung Le, but we’re going to be doing the typical With Leather Live Discussion starting from the very first bout between David Mitchell and Lim Hyun-Gyu, which you may remember was the first fight that changed Riki “Killer Bee” Fukuda and Tom DeBlass. Hopefully there won’t be any other changes.

But this UFC event is just a tad different from the past PPV events that we’ve covered. This one, obviously, is live from China, which means that it will air on Fuel TV… at 9 AM ET. Is that too early for you? No. Because I’ll be up bright and early to watch the live action and chat the whole way through. Then I’ll also be back for the 7 PM ET re-broadcast on Fuel TV to watch it all over again and chat it up as well. Don’t worry, I’ll be doing my best to play spoiler police in case anyone tries to get funny.

China Still Loves You, Tracy McGrady

Written by Ashley Burns / 10.26.12

In a moment so full of passion for the NBA that I can only assume it was stolen from a David Stern wet dream, Tracy McGrady recently landed in China, where he will play for the Qingdao Eagles of the Chinese Basketball Association, as he is the next in the distinguished line of former NBA players to finish his career in the Far East. Despite a career hindered by injuries, T-mac has always been an NBA fan favorite for his “what could have been” highlight reel.

But don’t feel bad for the guy, he already has quite the following in his new country, and that was proven in the aforementioned video, which shows him being greeted at the airport by a mob of Chinese basketball fans, chanting, “T-Mac! T-Mac! T-Mac!” And you can tell that he’s in full-on “Bros, I just got off an airplane full of farts and baby screams” mode but they don’t care. They love them some T-Mac in China.

Chinese Man Claims He Can Perform Hadoukens

Written by Ashley Burns / 10.25.12

Welp, time to pack it up, UFC and Strikeforce, because there’s a new breed of fighter out there and his name is Zhang Feng. The 23-year old man, hailing from parts unknown (or China, if you believe him over me), recently put on a little fighting exhibition for China News, and quite frankly I am terrified of the results. It seems, if a YouTube video is to be believed, that Feng has mastered the Street Fighter art of Hadouken, or energy blast punches to us common folk.

Feng, however, calls his incredibly unique talent the “Shaolin Sunshine Hand”, which upon first glance is much weaker than the Buddhist Palm, but I suppose all mystical martial artists need to start somewhere. For this news interview, Feng lined up 15 candles, lit them and invited two journalists to punch at them and see if they could put any of the flames out. The woman could not and the man only managed to put out one flame. When it came Feng’s turn, he punched until every candle was extinguished.

Is he a great, big phony? Or is he the most powerful warrior on the face of the Earth?

Behold, The Yao Ming Golf Swing

Written by Brandon Stroud / 10.23.12

Yao Ming Golf Swing“Yao Ming being adorable” is up near the top of the things With Leather loves most, somewhere between Phillie Phanatic human interest stories and Kate Upton outtakes. And while nothing could ever replace Yao Ming holding a panda in our hearts, the Yao Ming golf swing is coming awfully close.

Everything about it is beautiful. The swing itself. The way he just stares at the ball after he misses it, then holds his hand out like he can’t believe what the ball just did. The plainly-stated YouTube description, with an explanation for what’s happening:

Yao starts a new career in golf in his retirement. He is so tall and it is a little hard for him to play well in golf.

The helpful advice from the 30,000 people in his on-course entourage. His sad little blooper shot when he finally makes contact. It’s the first golf video I’ve ever wanted to hug.

I hope his friend’s advice was, “try playing a sport where the ball isn’t so close to the ground”.

Here Are The Really Neat Shoes That Dwyane Wade Left The Jordan Brand To Make

Written by Ashley Burns / 10.10.12

Dwyane Wade hates America, that’s what I’m taking away from the news that he left Michael Jordan’s brand to become the new face of the Chinese company Li Ning. Named for China’s most famous gymnast, Li Ning is hardly a presence in the States, which is why the company and Wade are banking on this new partnership to bring China’s most popular brand to the forefront of the U.S. market. When I think about how this will affect the Chinese workers who make the shoes for American companies, it almost makes me sick that Wade would turn his back on us like this.

But that’s the chance he’s willing to take, as the first designs of Wade’s new shoes were released this week and people seem to be really excited about them. Still, why leave the guaranteed fame and fortune that comes with the Jordan brand to take such a huge risk at this point in his career? Wade finally broke his silence in an interview with the Associated Press.
