Theory: Justin Bieber Is Using Chris Paul’s Son To Pick Up Girls At Clippers Games

Written by Ashley Burns / 12.31.12

"And that girl, and that girl, and that girl, and that girl and her mom, and that girl..."

Last time we checked in on Chris Paul’s adorable young son, he was giving us a good laugh at his dad’s expense, as CP3 asked him, “Who dunks?” to which he replied, “Blake!” The question, of course, came after the elder Paul threw down an impressive two-handed Phi Slamma Jamma against the New Orleans Hornets, and dunking isn’t usually his deal. But thanks to that cute little response, CP3’s kid became a star, and that means that Justin Bieber is ready to give him a true lesson in swag.

At last Thursday’s complete drubbing of the Boston Celtics, ever the convenient Los Angeles sports fan, Bieber took young Paul under his wing and did things like “take him to the concession stand”, which has quotes around it because you know he was parading this little dude in front of every girl at that game. And we already know all too well that Bieber doesn’t give a crap about what happens at NBA games, so I rest my case.

Leo Loves Himself Some Vuvuzela

Written by Ryan Walsh / 07.08.10

Vuvuzela fevor is at an all time high as the World Cup prepares for its final game on Sunday. It was surprising, to me at least, that more celebrities hadn’t gotten in on some plastic horn action, but we should consider Leonardo DiCaprio a visionary in that field. Leo and geriatric rock star Mick Jagger shared a box for Saturday’s Germany-Argentina match, throughout which Leo was making melodic music.

If you’ve been watching the World Cup, you’re no doubt familiar with the annoying drone of the vuvuzelas. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Every second of every game. It’s almost unwatchable here back in the States. Well apparently Leonardo DiCaprio didn’t get the message. He was blowing a vuvuzela like crazy during Saturday’s Germany-Argentina match. Dammit, I used to like this guy, too. A lot. Which makes it all the more painful for me to wish him a spectacular, fiery death. –Celebslam

There are more pictures of Leo at Celebslam, if that’s your sort of thing. Personally, I don’t think I could ever be mad at DiCaprio. I’m a big fan of Shutter Island, and Inception looks like the best acid trip movie since Tron. Not to mention that he got his start on Growing Pains. How he was able to stand the smugness of Alan Thicke on a daily basis is beyond me. Video evidence after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

New York Celebs Unite For LeBron

Written by Ashley Burns / 06.15.10

world

While no NBA team is allowed to court any of this year’s mega-super-duper-star free agents until July 1, famous fans of the New York Knicks have taken it upon themselves to unite and woo the alpha dog of the 2010 class, Dwayne Wade LeBron James. This is a clear counter to the efforts of the Cleveland Cavaliers, who offered Tom Izzo their head coaching job as a sign of dedication to winning, and the Chicago Bulls, who have found a way to be mentioned in each conversation about LeBron without having actually done anything.

Leading the charge for New York’s sports and celebrity elite is Donald Trump, who is sending a message out to LeBron that there is only one New York City. Famous Clevelander and actor Terrence Howard was also going to reach out to LeBron, but the city replaced him with Don Cheadle.

Roll out the burgundy carpet, Yahoo! Sports:

“We are in the process of assembling a committee of friends of the Knicks who are many of the city’s most successful winners and leaders [and] who have thrived in the world’s greatest city,” said a Knicks spokesman to the paper. “The enthusiastic response we have received from so many people wanting to help has been overwhelming and we look forward to working with this committee in various ways to show free agents that there is no better place to play and to win than in the world’s most famous arena and in New York City.”

The “committee” is expected to include Willis Reed, Walt Frazier, Earl Monroe, Phil Simms, Mark Messier, John McEnroe, talk-show host Charlie Rose, “The Big Idea” host Donny Deutsch, and Whoopi Goldberg.

To be fair to Yahoo’s list of New York Q-listers, Chris Rock and Spike Lee have also spoken in favor of LeBron choosing the Big Apple as his new home, and even 30 Rock stars Tracy Morgan and Alec Baldwin have joined this makeshift coalition of support. Word is that Judah Friedlander was going to make one of his funny hats until someone pointed out that nobody cares about him.

Ironically, the last time any pop culture icon showed this much concern for the Knicks was when Joel Rifkin offered to take care of Shandon Anderson.

NBA Finals: Lakers Get Physical, Up 1-0

Written by Ashley Burns / 06.04.10

Jack

The Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics kicked off their 12th finals matchup in NBA history last night, with Kobe Bryant and Co. making a bold statement with a 102-89 victory. The defending NBA champions got strong performances out of Bryant (30 points) and Pau Gasol (23 Pts, 14 Reb) while the Celtics big three struggled with fouls and poor shooting performances. About the only bright spot for the Celtics was backup forward Brian Scalabrine, who moved chairs and shifted butt cheeks with authority.

The game got off to a physical start, as Ron Artest got all up in Paul Pierce’s patchwork facial hair after the two locked elbows and threw each other to the ground within the first minute of play. The duo earned a pair of technical fouls for their efforts, which shockingly did not include Pierce clutching his chest and screaming out to his dead wife Elizabeth.

Lay some postgame quotes on us, ESPN:

“I knew it was going to be physical. That’s a given,” Gasol said. “After consecutive Finals, we understand the nature of the game. We understand who our rival is, how they play. You’ve got to compete, and you’ve got to match that physicality effort of the game to be successful.”

“They were the more physical team by far,” Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. “They were more aggressive. They attacked us the entire night. I didn’t think we handled it very well.”

“You can’t ease into the game, especially in the Finals,” Pierce said. “That’s one of the better rebounding teams in the NBA. We’ve just got to do a better job rebounding the ball, eliminating easy opportunities. When I look up and we’ve given up 100 points, I haven’t seen that in a while.”

In fact, Pierce and the Celtics haven’t given up more than 100 points in two whole games, since the Orlando Magic dropped 113 on them in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals. But in defense of Pierce’s statement, this is the NBA Playoffs and Game 5 was six weeks ago. Rajon Rondo scored only 3 points in the second half, but vowed to summon the powers of Kahless and return to Klingon warrior form in time for Game 2.
