Bubba Watson’s Hovercraft Golf Cart Is Cool, But Is It The Super Coolest Ever?

Written by Ashley Burns / 04.04.13

Earlier this week, PGA star Bubba Watson and his friends at Oakley released a video that reached viral status almost instantly, as it showed Watson’s newest toy – a hovercraft golf cart. Watson is obviously no stranger to awesome vehicles, as he owns the original Dukes of Hazard General Lee, so it wasn’t much of a surprise to see him whipping around a golf course in a personal hovercraft that probably costs around $20,000.

But while everyone with a keyboard was writing, “ZOMG!” and “Rad cart, bro!” I couldn’t help but wonder if it is really all that dope and fly, as the cool kids on my street say when I pay them money not to egg my house. Yes, I’d love to own a hovercraft for any situation, but where the hell would I ever drive it? And while it would be awesome to hit up my local golf course in Watson’s whip before I lay a fat 110 on my score card, I’m pretty sure the pro shop gestapo wouldn’t let me use it.

The Golf Boys Are Back And More Golf-Boyey Than Ever

Written by Brandon Stroud / 03.04.13

Golf Boys 2.oh

Your Golf Buoyancy is about to be off the charts because the Golf Boys — the golf-themed boyband — is back. This time they’ve brought chicken wings (in both food and clothing forms), exploding soda bottles, a giant-sized hat and some baby costumes. No, seriously.

Brought to you by PGA Tour stars Ben Crane, Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler and Hunter Mahan, the Golf Boys’ encore performance, “2.Oh”, is here. Proceeds benefiting charity:water. Please visit http://mycharitywater.org/GolfBoys for more information about the cause and Golf Boys campaign.

Shane Bacon has contributed a few things to my life, but none greater than the “hey, Bubba Watson just did something else stupid” heads-up. And hey, it’s for a good cause, right? The charity’s even called “charity:water,” which can be read as “charity colon water,” which is THE WORST POSSIBLE CHARITY.

But seriously, good on the Golf Boys for showing some personality and having fun. Here’s the video. Have fun singing this for the rest of the day.

Bill Clinton With Deron Williams < Bill Clinton With Porn Stars

Written by Ashley Burns / 08.28.12

Brooklyn Nets guard Deron Williams is still reveling in the limelight of Team USA’s gold medal run at the 2012 Summer Olympics, as he added his star power to the Barclays Pro-Am golf tournament last week. At some point during his appearance at the golf tournament that bears his new arena’s name, Williams ran into former President and Gold Medal Poonhound Bill Clinton, as Williams Tweeted the above photo on Sunday. Unfortunately, it was not taken at a strip club, which is where I like to think all Clinton pictures should be taken.

For the Pro-Am, Williams was paired with Masters champion Bubba Watson, and it’s worth mentioning that Watson and Rickie Fowler won the 2012 Awesomest Golfers in the World award, as Watson agreed to stay in a house with three U.S. soldiers who had been wounded in combat, and Fowler had Air Force staff sergeant Nick Bradley serve as his caddy. Bradley was injured in an IED attack in Afghanistan four years ago, and doctors told him that he’d never walk again. So it’s pretty awesome that he was out there caddying a full round of golf. Because of that, I wish that it had been Watson or Fowler in the picture with Slick Willy. Or, you know, Nick Bradley.

Alas, it was just Williams. And while I still thought that was pretty cool, I remembered that it’s definitely not the coolest picture that Clinton has ever taken. No, that photo was taken back in May.

Why Can’t This Bubba Watson Photoshop Be Real?

Written by Ashley Burns / 04.13.12

Back in January, when he was still just a golfer with no green jacket in his closet, Bubba Watson attended a huge car show and auction in Scottsdale, Arizona – or Snottsdale as my dad calls it – and he ended up leaving with his wallet $110,000 lighter. Watson purchased the original Dukes of Hazzard General Lee car that was used in the show’s pilot episode. The famous Dodge Charger was banged up and discarded, but eventually a collector found it and completely restored it, leading to Watson’s purchase.

As Watson was fending off Louis Oosthuizen in a sudden death playoff before winning his first ever PGA major at the Masters, my friend and I were joking that he should totally do donuts on the green at 18 if he won. Of course he wouldn’t, but a boy can dream. That’s why Watson’s Tweet yesterday with the above image of him jumping the General Lee over the lawn outside the clubhouse at Augusta was good enough.

Alas, Watson only Tweeted the image because he’s been taking criticism for owning and driving a car that has a confederate flag on the top. I guess that comes with the territory when you spend 6 figures on something that people have as much contempt for as a swastika, so he should probably get used to defending his ride.

Bubba Watson Is Just A Good Ol’ Boy, Never Meanin’ No Harm

Written by Ashley Burns / 01.24.12

What do you do if you’re one of the most popular professional golfers in America and you have $110,000 burning a hole in your pocket? According to Golf.com’s Press Tent, you spend it on the original “Dukes of Hazard” General Lee Dodge Charger, of course. At least that’s what Bubba Watson did over the weekend at a car auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, or as I like to call it – the city that is home to my very racist aunt.

Watson was elated when he made his purchase as he quickly took to Twitter to post a picture of him with his new pride and joy, calling it his “dream car.”

AutoBlog.com also justified Watson’s purchase, declaring it the most famous TV car in the world.

What’s “the most famous television car in the world”? We suppose that depends on who you ask, but to many, nothing but the General Lee could possibly hold the title. Of course, there wasn’t just one General Lee. In fact, scores of orange Dodge Chargers were filmed for “The Dukes of Hazzard,” and most of them never survived their first televised escapade.

And that’s where we’re going to agree to disagree, because I would gladly put KITT and the A*Team van over the General Lee any day. Hell, I’d argue that Becky Belding’s Mazda Miata was more important because it helped bring Jessie Spano together with her stepbrother Eric, but to each his own, I suppose.

There is one little problem that Watson may face down the road, and that’s resale value. This General Lee – the very first actual Charger used in the pilot episode of Dukes – spent most of its life in a junkyard because it was trashed after the first jump. And despite completely restoring it to perfect running order, the original owner was expecting almost a half million dollars for his effort.

But hey, if it makes Watson happy, then who are we to judge? One little request, though: Watson should make his caddy legally change his name to Cooter. And hire Natalie Gulbis to play Daisy Duke. That would be swell.

Justin Bieber: Golf Boy

Written by Brandon Stroud / 09.29.11

Like everywhere else on the Internet, we end up talking about Justin Bieber way more than we should. Our job is to 1) cover what happens in the world of sports, and 2) bring as many people from the Internet to our site as possible. Unfortunately for us, Justin Bieber is what millions of people online love and he won’t stop injecting himself into professional sports. He’s rented out the Staples Center to show his girlfriend a movie, he’s defeated NBA players in a game of basketball, been loved by Erin Andrews, been a Bowling Hall Of Fame nominee and been covered by Cam Newton.

Now, he’s golfing with “Golf Boy” Bubba Watson, for whatever reason, and he’s doing it exactly like you think he would: at five feet tall in a hot pink polo shirt. But hey, his swing isn’t bad. Courtesy of @bubbawatson, by way of Sportress Of Blogitude:
