The UCLA Bruins opened their brand new Pauley Pavilion with an 86-59 win over Indiana State Saturday night, which means that NCAA Men’s Basketball is underway and people can begin pretending like anything matters before March. But the actual reason that I’m bringing this up is that once-celebrated star of awesome movies like Braveheart, Lethal Weapon 1-3 (4 never happened) and the wildly underrated Payback, Mel Gibson, was in attendance with his son, because what the hell else is a guy who destroyed his career gonna do on a Saturday night?

Of course, because he’s been branded as a psychopathic, woman-beating, anti-Semitic, racist in recent years, people don’t necessarily like Gibson that much. That’s why it shouldn’t surprise anyone that his reception by Bruins fans was less than warm.

To blame Eli Manning for the New York Giants’ offensive woes is a bit unfair. After all, it’s not like he’s single-handedly tossing his receivers into traffic, and we are only two weeks into the season. But Giants fans were nonetheless booing their former Super Bowl MVP quarterback against the St. Louis Rams last night, despite Manning leading them to a 28-16 win with 200 passing yards and 2 touchdowns.

So how did Manning react to the negative stirrings of his Big Blue faithful? He said, “You crazy, girlfriend” and passed the boos off to those loathsome Rams that Giants fans have such a history of hating.

Philadelphia fans catch a lot of grief for booing Santa Claus and, like Dwayne Wade will tell you about Rocky, he's not even real. Yankees fans, ever eager to prove they are the most surpassingly negative and stupid people in the land, decided to boo the source of all life on the planet yesterday because it was hot outside. 

Fans showed their approval today when a cloud moved in front of the sun during the fifth inning of the Yankees-Royals game. They booed moments later when the sun returned. On a day when temperatures neared the century mark over much of the eastern United States, any relief was welcome.

Considering the sun is on average 93,000,000 miles away, I'm sure it got the message. Also, it's an inanimate ball of gas, making it slightly less aware of its surroundings than Jason Giambi. Let's hope the new Yankees Stadium comes equipped with new non-moving clouds that take the shape of memorable Yankees of the past. What's that? Oh no, someone has snuck in one in the shape of a David Ortiz jersey. Heeeere we go again…
