BODE WINS GOLD: DAY 10 GAMEBOOK

Written by JOSH Z / 02.22.10

Bode Miller won his first Olympic gold medal–his third in Vancouver–in the super combined yesterday. Super combined is just like regular combined, except it comes with more fries. Miller’s accomplishments are even more impressive after his disappointing trip to the 2–6 games in Torino where he didn’t medal at all.

Lindsey Vonn’s husband and coach Thomas Vonn accused Austrain skiing coach Juergen Kriechbaum of sabotaging Lindsey’s chances in the Super G last week. Vonn claimed that the Austrian coaches, who somehow were allowed to design the run in accordance with current Olympic rules, did so to play against her weakness. Vonn finished with a bronze medal, so honestly I don’t see all the fuss.

Jaromir Jagr got his sh!t OWNED by Alex Ovechkin in the Russia-Czech Republic game. This never would have happened if Jagr still had his mullet. Read the rest of this entry »

BODE MILLER GETS A BRONZE MEDAL

Written by JOSH Z / 02.15.10

bode_millerWas there a more overrated athlete EVER than Bode Miller in the Turin Games four years ago? Dude did absolutely nothing in 2006, and then went o-fer in 2007 AND 2009, but decided to come back to the Olympics for one more shot at redemption. Oh, this might be a spoiler…

Defending overall World Cup champion Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway took silver [in the men's downhill], a slim 0.07 seconds behind, and Bode Miller of the United States snapped his medal drought at major events by taking the bronze, only 0.09 behind [gold medal winner and noted Swiss guy Didier] Defago.–SI.com.

Wouldn’t that be great to decide, “Yeah, I’d like to come back to the Olympics this year.” Most people train and sweat and sacrifice their whole lives, and this douche acts like the Games are just an invite to an office holiday party. Well, I’ve gotta see what else is going on. I mean, who all is gonna be there. Is it Bring Your Own? Because I’m totally not going if it isn’t Bring Your Own. Thanks for adding to the medal count. You make Andy Roddick’s press appear balanced and objective.

BODE MILLER IS A WINNER AGAIN

Written by Matt / 03.01.08

Bode Miller won the downhill at Kvitfjell, Norway today and returned to the top of the World Cup standings. Miller credits his recent success to breeaking away from the U.S. Ski Team and training independently:

“Reality is, I haven’t changed since I started racing in the World Cup, barely at all. I have always raced the same, I always push it,” said the former four-times world champion. “I have improved slowly over time, but in general I feel there is no reason for anyone to criticize me one time and not another time. If you just look at results, you can do that, but I think that’s a pretty silly way to address ski racing, because it doesn’t give you a very complete picture. If my equipment is good, I can make recoveries and make adjustments and finish races, if it’s not then I crash. It is what it is.” Asked if he felt he had silenced his critics, the American smiled: “I don’t know, where are they? Are they talking? I don’t see any of them.”

Um, that's because people only pay attention to skiing every four years at the Winter Olympics, and the critics chose the "silly way to address ski racing" and you sucked. That's alright Bode, ex-girlfriends have often disparaged my equipment and it took me 2 years to fashion a witty retort. However, I've often found they don't care anymore. Kinda like sports fans don't care about you. -KD

BODE MILLER JOINS TEAM AMERICA

Written by Matt / 10.26.07

Immense talent/gargantuan disappointment Bode Miller has left the U.S. Ski Team, and has started his own team.  From Ben Maller (emphasis mine):

Bode Miller announced that his independent race team, comprised of himself, his coaching staff, technicians and support staff, will be called Team America.

Bode Miller… FUCK YEAH!

BODE MILLER IS BETTER THAN YOU

Written by Matt / 04.22.07

Bode Miller doesn't want to race in the 2010 Winter Olympics:

"It's highly doubtful that I'll be racing in 2010," America's top skier said in an interview Friday, "and even if I am racing in World Cup, I wouldn't go (to the Olympics). There's too much emphasis on winning,"

Yeah, there is too much emphasis on winning.  It's not like you grew up during the Cold War where almost every Olympic event was viewed as a matter of life and death by all Americans.

"Being the front man for it in the last Olympics, I thought it was terrible," he said. "That was the reason (my behavior) was so terrible, the reason I was a hard ass."

"Hard ass" must mean something different in Bode's native New Hampshire, because, on the South Side, drinking all night with co-eds and phoning it in at work the next day earns you the moniker of "slack ass".  I should know because I'm an International Grandmaster Slack Ass.

"In my mind, I'm better than any other racer," he said. "I've been racing against those guys for five, 10 years. Given equal conditions, I feel I can beat those guys any day."

That is so profound.  Why do they even have to race?  They should have two skiers face-off in a mind battle, and we could imagine the race ourselves.  Bode's metaphysics surely destine him to the be the abbot of a serene Zen Buddhist monastery.  Except it will have nightly drunken parties with naked ski bunnies.  God Buddha bless him. -KD
