Texas Is The New East Coast

Written by JOSH Z / 11.29.10

Texas Christian University has accepted to the Big East conference, effective at the start of the 2012-2013 academic year, according to reports citing sources close to the industry.

The Horned Frogs (12-0) are ranked No. 3 in the current BCS rankings and are guaranteed a BCS bowl. By adding TCU for the 2012-13 school year, the Horned Frogs would take “all of their data to their new league,” BCS spokesman Bill Hancock told FanHouse.

The current four-year evaluation period for the BCS concludes in December 2011, so TCU’s past BCS rankings – three consecutive top 11 BCS rankings, including this year – will transfer to the Big East since it joined the league before the 2012-13 school year.

So TCU won’t have to run the table for BCS consideration and the Big East actually gets a football school. This is a win-win for both parties. Oh, I guess it’s sort of a draw for women’s volleyball team and the like, who will be leaving sunny Texas for an annual pilgrimage to Storrs, Connecticut. Oh, I’d love to be working the TSA gate when those ladies roll into the airport. I’d give each of those girls a private screening, and then have the video shown in a movie theater with a few close friends. It would be a private screening of private screenings. Oh, you thought I was taking that joke somewhere else…

Ohio State Prez Runs His Mouth

Written by JOSH Z / 11.24.10

President of THE Ohio State University E. Gordon Gee said something ill-advised about Boise State earlier this week, and I have a legitimate beef when the president of my alma mater starts talking trash about my secret-misstress-favorite football team.

“Well, I don’t know enough about the Xs and Os of college football,” said Gee, formerly the president at West Virginia, Colorado, Brown and Vanderbilt universities. “I do know, having been both a Southeastern Conference president and a Big Ten president, that it’s like murderer’s row every week for these schools. We do not play the Little Sisters of the Poor. We play very fine schools on any given day. So I think until a university runs through that gantlet that there’s some reason to believe that they not be the best teams to (be) in the big ballgame.”

“If you put a gun to my head and said, ‘What are you going to do about a playoff system (if) the BCS system as it now exists goes away?’ I would vote immediately to go back to the bowl system,” he said.

–SI.com.

I’ll say this to Ohio State and anyone else that thinks Boise State is playing a weak schedule. You think you can beat Boise State? PLAY THEM. The Broncos have only lost one game since 2006, and they even beat Oregon last year and the year before that. If they run the table, they should go. It’s about time to screw Auburn again, anyway.

BCS Standings: LSU Ranked 5th…Somehow

Written by JOSH Z / 11.15.10

I really hate debating college football because every team out there plays in a vacuum; SEC teams play other SEC teams and Pac-10 teams play other teams in their league and so on down the pecking order. I also hate people that just sit around and bitch about the absence of a playoff. Yes, people are still homeless, the icecaps are still melting and college football still has no true postseason. Let’s move on.

I also hate the way people drive in the south. How hard is it for someone to pull out in the intersection when you’re sitting in the left turn lane? I HAVE PLACES TO BE, D:CKWEED. And why do people get so worked up over bottle service? Is that like a class thing? If I was set on putting down an entire bottle of booze, I would just stay at home. It’s cheaper. Plus it’s not as loud.

But yeah, LSU is ranked 5th right now, so I guess they’re pretty good.

Oregon Is Good At Football

Written by JOSH Z / 10.22.10

oregon ducks

The Oregon Ducks played UCLA last night and for some reason this was being trumped up as a rite of passage for Oregon to be crowned No. 1 (as they were in the Harris and coaches’ polls last week). Since when does anything run through UCLA? Besides the possibility of a really nasty strand of VD? Yeah, I still call it VD. It’s pleasantly all-emcompassing.

The Ducks left UCLA with a blurred vision, scoring touchdowns on their first five possessions in the first half. When the Bruins got a 25-yard field goal by Kai Forbath to cut the deficit to 15-3, the Ducks countered by going 55 yards in 27 seconds to go up, 22-3.

The rest was a statistical pile-up for the Ducks. Quarterback Darron Thomas threw for a career-high 308 yards and had three touchdown passes. Running back LaMichael James had 123 yards rushing. The Ducks had 23 plays of 10 or more yards. –LA Times.

Just don’t give me this jive about how Oregon is now an undisputed No. 1. They ran up the score a below-average Pac-10 team that lost to Kansas State and was trounced by Stanford and Cal. The best and worst thing about college football is that there almost never is an undisputed No. 1, especially in October. Let’s acknowledge that and move on.

BSU Not No. 1 Despite Awesome Dog

Written by Ashley Burns / 10.18.10

Boise

When the University of Florida and Ohio State (sorry Punte) sucked ballhole on Saturday, college football pundits predicted that the BCS rankings would debut with Boise State atop the rankings. Wrong. Instead, Oklahoma has jumped to the top of the college football world, much to my drunken surprise, and BSU rests at No. 3 behind Oregon at 2. But I’m not here to rip on Boise State or the guy in my office who pretends to be a fan of the… um, crap. Broncos, right? Whew, almost had to Google for a second there.

Instead, I’ve come here to praise BSU. Originally, I was hoping to find video of Boise State’s team entrance against San Jose State University on Saturday, because the Broncos supposedly trampled a SJSU cheerleader or dance team member or just some girl cheering on the Fighting Alpacas* and while that’s not something we should necessarily laugh at, I’m really too hungover to care. The moral of the story is that I’m disappointed in people who didn’t get that damn video on YouTube. Like this dude, for instance…

Everybody Hates Boise State…But Not Really

Written by JOSH Z / 09.01.10

Be sure to check out FilmDrunk’s Vince Mancini and his great photoshops of 20th century history.

I’m not big on “FJM-ing” other columnists; those people are entitled to their opinions and the points of view that they wish to represent in their work. But I about sh*t a brick when I read Dan Wetzel’s take on why Boise State suddenly turned into college football’s New York Yankees.

Fast forward five seasons and Boise State is bigger, better and suddenly no longer so popular. In some circles, they’ve become the most hated – or at least rooted against – team in America. Move over Notre Dame.

Boise State? Hated more than Notre Dame?! Are you sh*tting me? Read the rest of this entry »
