The Fernando Tatis Art Gallery Is Amazing

Written by Ashley Burns / 05.08.13

Former Major Leaguer Fernando Tatis is quietly one of the best follows on Twitter. While a lot of baseball writers and fans in general – perhaps 2,797 of them – are familiar with his quirky Twitter habits, like his harmless trash-talking at Chan Ho Park that some people took a little too seriously, many people are missing out on Fernando’s new career as an MS Paint artist. Eat your heart out, Danger Guerrero.

As I’d seen his incredible work before, Fernando’s art was nothing new to me, but I was reminded of the combination of his exceptional talent and kind-hearted nature yesterday, when he had this pleasant exchange with a fan…

The With Leather Hot Twitter List Buzz Words Top 25: Efficiency, People

Written by Danger Guerrero / 09.25.12

(Burnsy here. The other day, me and the fellas were chatting around the UPROXX whiskey fountain, and we decided that Sports Illustrated and Deadspin are on to something. Last week, SI – for no reason other than passing out some cyber ass slaps – launched its list of the 100 sports people that we should be following on Twitter, and Deadspin responded with a more tongue-in-cheek version of people we shouldn’t follow. The problem, though, is that there are people out there who you really should be following that don’t get the credit they deserve, and there are people who really, really suck beyond the obvious guys like Skip Bayless and Jason Whitlock, who both really, really suck.

So we enlisted some friends for this week, and we’re sending out our own Twitter ass slaps. Next on the docket, UPROXX’s own Danger Guerrero.)

Here is my Twitter Top 25…

Billboards Being Used To Identify Brian Stow’s Attackers

Written by Danger Guerrero / 05.13.11

Artist's rendering

File this one under ‘Justice.’ (Provided you have a Justice file. If not, go ahead and make one, then file it under that. I shouldn’t have to explain this, people.) A California company has purchased space on billboards in the Los Angeles area with the goal of getting information that will lead to the arrest of the men who attacked paramedic Brian Stow in the Dodger Stadium parking lot on Opening Day. From ESPN:

The search for justice for the San Francisco Giants fan who was severely beaten outside Dodger Stadium on Opening Day was bolstered by the appearance in Los Angeles on Thursday of about 200 billboards showing police sketches of the suspects, according to a Santa Cruz (Calif.) Sentinel report.

Lamar Advertising Co. donated the billboards, which tout a $100,000 reward for information that contributes to the apprehension of Bryan Stow’s attackers, according to the report.

Good on you, Lamar Advertising. I’m always happy when businesses use their resources for stuff like this. I hope this leads to the arrest of the black-hearted boobs responsible for the attack, and I hope whoever collects the reward turns right around and donates it to Brian Stow and his family. Kumbaya and sh*t.

(Unrelated: If I was a billionaire, I’d buy up tons of billboards and just use them to advance my personal agenda all the time. Sometimes I’d do good stuff like this, for sure, but other times I’d just put up pictures of Kelly Kapowski or messages like “Ugh. Enough with the stupid sunglasses people, ok?” I’d be what you might call ‘eccentric.’)

VEGAS JUST ISN’T PACMAN’S TOWN

Written by Christmas Ape / 05.23.08

Joining Tony Romo, Charles Barkley and Marge Simpson on the list of public figures with particularly bad gambling problems (the problem being that they're bad at gambling) is otherwise immaculately behaved Cowboys' reinstatement appellant Adam "Pacman" Jones, who is in hock to Caesars Palace to the tune of $20,000, which is a light afternoon drizzle in the grand scheme of money precipitation.

The district attorney’s office is seeking a felony arrest warrant for suspended NFL player Adam “Pacman” Jones for failing to repay $20,000 in gambling debts to Caesars Palace.

Las Vegas attorney Robert Langford, who represents Jones, said he was “pretty damn surprised” to hear that the district attorney was moving forward with the criminal case.

“I thought we were working it out,” Langford said. “He (Jones) hasn’t been playing football, so he hasn’t been able to pay it back.”

Oh yes, I can't believe a casino would try to get its money back. Pretty loose with the bottom line, those guys. And hasn't Pacman been doing things like appearing in wrestling events? Those usually aren't done for charity, except the one time I put Tina Fey in a headlock to benefit the World Sanity Foundation. Wrote it off in my taxes and everything.
