Just when you thought American soccer was about to turn a corner and make a run for the World Cup, they fell 2-1 to Ghana. Allowing early goals was the team’s biggest problem throughout the tournament, and those troubles continued against the Ghanaians. Kevin Prince-Boateng scored in the fifth minute, forcing the USMNT to play from behind for a majority of the game. But the US once again proved they could rise to the challenge when Landon Donovan scored his third goal of the tournament on a penalty kick in the 62nd minute. That goal would force extra time, but the Ghanaians would once again take advantage of an early goal, when Asamoah Gyan scored in the 93rd minute. It proved to be the final nail in the coffin for the American squad. Who’s excited for the MLS season? That’s right, no one.

“A stinging, tough defeat,” said Bob Bradley, who faces an uncertain future as U.S. coach. –ESPN

Stinging, indeed. Had the Americans won, they would have faced a beatable Uruguay team in the quarterfinals. A win there would have put them in the tournament’s final four. The door was open for the USMNT to spike interest in a country that notoriously couldn’t care less. Sunil Gulati, president of the U.S. Soccer Federation wasn’t pleased with the performance, and heads may roll. Specifically, the head of coach Bob Bradley. Read the rest of this entry »

Haynesworth Not Hustling On Child Support?

Written by JOSH Z / 05.26.10

Washington Redskins defensive pancake eater Albert Haynesworth is back in the news after being sued for child support. Silvia Mena, described as a “Salma Hayek lookalike” and an “exotic dancer” from Brooklyn, has filed a $10 million lawsuit, claiming that Haynesworth impregnated her and hasn’t helped her pay any of her medical bills.

The papers allege that Haynesworth — who signed a $100 million contract with the Redskins last year — has refused to talk to her since late March or give her any money toward her medical bills.

Ah, there’s that big contract again. Not exactly relevant to the story, but it’s nice kindling for the outrage of mothers everywhere.

Mena, 25, alleges Haynesworth, 28, met her in Miami, romanced her during Super Bowl week, and invited her to his Tennessee home. She claims in the documents that after learning about the pregnancy, Haynesworth promised to “emotionally and financially support Silvia.” But, “after making such promises . . . Haynesworth has abandoned the pregnant Sylvia Mena . . . He has refused to provide any emotional or financial support of Silvia Mena or his unborn child.” –NY Post.

This is going to make me sound less than wonderful, but I’m fresh out of sympathy for these poor, innocent, Selma Hayek lookalikes that just so happened to get intimate with millionaire athletes. Besides, a true professional like Haynesworth would never shirk on any of his responsibilities. He’d never shirk. He’s not the shirking type. He may be a liar, a pig, an idiot and a shirker, but he is not a porn star.

But yeah, if I was in front of a well with a stripper on one side and a lawyer on the other, I don’t know which one I’d throw in first. Probably the lawyer. Strippers are easy to chase down. It’s the heels, really.

MORE BABY MAMA DRAMA FOR D. HOWARD

Written by Amber Jones / 12.19.09

DHoward_pedobearOn the heels of his lawsuit against his ex which had her barred from talking smack about him, Orlando Magic’s Dwight Howard is now suing her for posting pictures of their kid on Twitter.  Apparently she has the mental retention of a ham and Swiss sandwich on honey oat bread with mayo and Dijon mustard (What? I’m hungry.), because

According to documents filed by Howard earlier this month in Florida, Reed was ordered by a judge in 2008 to refrain from posting images of their son Braylon on “blogs, websites, etc.”TMZ.com

However, I think he has every right to be concerned about the safety of his child.  Even though MJ’s gone, you never know when Pedobear is lurking…

DREAMBOAT/GISELE/BRIDGET/BABY NEWS

Written by Matt / 09.05.07

Okay, let's get everyone up to speed on Dreambaby.  Yesterday the news was that Gisele had committed some kind of gaffe by sending Bridget Moynahan a really expensive baby gift basket that included a piece of clothing that said "supermodel" on it.  Pretty boring.  But today, from some weird British-language baby site called Bounty, there's this:

Although the father was present at baby John's birth, he is reported to have left the hospital shortly afterwards in tears and Moynahan has apparently declared she wants to cut Brady out of her and her baby's lives.

Good call, Bridge.  Definitely a good idea to not allow the dad into your son's life.  Relieve Tom of all fatherhood duties.  Give him more time to jetset around the world and screw models.  Meanwhile, your son grows up in the public eye, with everyone telling him how his father is handsome and popular and rich and one of the greatest big-game NFL quarterbacks of all time.

John probably won't even want to meet him.  I don't see this being an issue down the road at all.

DOES DREAMBOAT HATE THE DREAMBABY?

Written by Matt / 02.20.07

Tom Brady's friends seem to think Bridget Moynahan stopped taking birth control in order to intentionally get pregnant.

Some say that Moynahan, three months expectant with her first child, "may have gotten pregnant on purpose. She is 36, wanted a baby, and Tom was dumping her. It's a little suspicious."

Wow. Brilliant detective work. Dreamboat's friends must all work for Scotland Yard. But can they solve THIS mystery?

2 + 2 = ????????????????

Only time will tell.
