And Now, Daniele De Rossi And The Worst Soccer Dive Ever

Written by Brandon Stroud / 05.08.13

Daniele De RossiI think the Youtube user who uploaded this clip did it a great service by removing the sound, removing the context and playing it on loop. It helps the viewer detach from any distractions or personal prejudices and clearly focus on what might sincerely be the worst soccer dive I’ve ever seen.

Daniele De Rossi is a 29-year old Italian footballer and midfielder for Serie A club Roma who believes that if you shove someone, it hurts your own ankle. Watch is slack-jawed amazement as De Rossi waits for the referee to turn his head before lightly pushing his opponent, then collapsing to the ground as though Chong Li just stomped through his tibia. The ref isn’t impressed, and the guy who supposedly broke his ankle just kinda stands there shrugging, because what the f**k are you supposed to do?

Anyway, as pathetic and obvious as it is, YouTube commenters are quick to justify it as legit, because of course they are, and of course it was:

See If You Can Figure Out Whether Or Not This Lady Wants To See Totti

Written by Brandon Stroud / 11.02.12

Totti! Totti! Totti? Totti? Totti!Francesco Totti is the captain of Serie A football club Roma, and he’s a pretty popular guy. Don’t believe me? Watch this video of a weird lady showing up at a train station to meet him, and accomplishing it by just wandering around and yelling TOTTI, TOTTI, TOTTI, TOTTI, TOTTI at everyone she sees. For 2 1/2 minutes. TOTTI!

There’s an off chance that the lady, described pretty accurately by a YouTube commenter as “a cross between Sailor Moon and Groucho Marx,” is just a Borat character played by an Italian woman who found a Japanese school girl uniform at a Halloween store. She’s got a camera crew with her, and with the language/soccer barrier happening she could be anything. She could be Pele in a wig, how the f**k am I supposed to know? But much like how I’m continuing to share exceptional high school football clips despite 70% of them being undercover AT&T commercials, I hope that there is still room for legitimately weird, random people to show up at train stations and mark the hell out for soccer guys.

MANCHESTER UNITED ARE GOOD AT SOCCER

Written by Matt / 04.11.07

This video comes from We Are The Postmen, and to the dismay of many of you it's a bunch of highlights from yesterday's Man U-AS Roma clash.  However, for the futbol detractors who hate scoreless ties, savor this one: the final score was 7-1.

There's not a whole lot I can say here.  I didn't watch this game, and I only know enough about these two teams to say that if the New York Yankees played a team of Nazi war criminals, I'd ignore my MLB loyalties and cheer for the Yankees to kick some ass.  So… congratulations, Man U (I guess).

For more respectable analysis of this game, you're better off reading David Hirshey's Deadspin post, Soccernista's fair-yet-ashamed ode to Cristiano Ronaldo, and More Credible's trashing of Fracesco Totti.
