With Leather’s Watch This: The New York Yankees!

Written by Ashley Burns / 10.03.12

Welp, it sure ain’t as exciting as last year’s Wild Card Wednesday, when the St. Louis Cardinals made the playoffs on the final day of the MLB and went on to win the World Series. Oh, and something else happened that day with the Tampa Bay Rays winning on a walk-off home run to make the playoffs or something like that, but nobody was even watching that game. Everyone was glued to the Cardinals blowing out the Houston Astros.

Since the Cards clinched the NL’s second wild card spot last night thanks to Mark Ellis and the Los Angeles Dodgers, I guess we can pay just a little attention to the New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles tonight, as they could end up in a tie for first place in the AL East. You know, if that’s something that interests you.

Antoine Walker Named In $5 Million Suit For Homewreckin’

Written by JOSH Z / 12.02.10

Antoine Walker hasn’t officially joined the NBA’s D-League yet, but that hasn’t stopped him from making yet another alleged steal–of a Chicago man’s live-in fiancee. With Leather has learned that Walker has been named in a $5 million lawsuit filed Tuesday in federal court by Kevin Jenkins of West Madison Street. Jenkins cites “defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress” created when Walker engaged in a relationship with Jenkins’s fiancee’, Johanna Edelberg, according to the suit.

The suit states that Edelberg tried to throw Jenkins out of their shared residence while a man that Jenkins later identified as Walker waited outside, Walker posing as a Chicago police officer over the phone, and culminating with Walker’s taunting of Jenkins at every subsequent turn.

According to the suit, Walker also promised to provide for Edelberg’s mother and son, which is funny, because Antoine Walker is, oh what’s the phrase, broke as hell.

It is interesting that Antoine Walker’s ex-fiancee is now engaged to Cincinnati Bengals wideout Chad Ochocinco. We’ll have the documents that were sent to us posted shortly. Eventually. Maybe. Damn PDFs.

Antoine Walker Needs A Jobby Job

Written by Ryan Walsh / 05.28.10

ANTOINE WALKER NEEDS A JOBFormer three time NBA Star and 2006 NBA champion Antoine Walker has finally filed for bankruptcy. The former Kentucky star made 110 million dollars throughout the course of his 13 year NBA career. I’m surprised he was able to support himself on that salary, let alone feed any kids. If I weren’t so sick of the phrase “in this economy?” I would use it here, so instead I’ll just make a seamless transition to the block quote.

Walker worked out a payment plan last year with Las Vegas casinos after he was arrested for writing $1 million in bad checks. But he since was hit with a $2.3 million foreclosure lawsuit on a Chicago-area property he purchased for his mother. Walker, 33, lists liabilities of $12.74 million and assets of $4.28 million in his filing, according to Crain’s. (Via ChicagoBusiness.com) The assets include his 2006 NBA championship ring, valued at $6,000. The petition also lists nearly $650,000 in gambling losses in 2008-09. –USAToday

Vegas gambling troubles? Charles Barkley had those too but he was smart enough to cash in on shoe endorsements and celebrity. Antoine Walker has a lot less celebrity than Sir 5 Buck Box, but he should still be able to find an easy job doing something somewhere. Hell, even Kenny Powers was able to make appearances at car dealerships. And Walker has the advantage of being a non-fictitious person.  Read the rest of this entry »

ANTOINE WALKER WUZ ROBBED

Written by Matt / 07.10.07

Miami Heat forward Antoine Walker was held at gunpoint and robbed in his Chicago home last night.  He was unharmed, but probably won't be happy enough to do this for awhile.

Police and witnesses said two offenders held Walker and at least one other person at gunpoint during the robbery, Chicago broadcasters reported from the scene in the city's River North neighborhood Monday night…

This has got to be a trying time for him.  It must have been painful to not be able to go crying to a referee afterward.

In July 2000, Walker — then a Boston Celtic — was the victim of an armed robbery along with NBA center Nazr Mohammed as they sat in a vehicle waiting for a restaurant on Chicago's South Side to open. Police said at the time that three men approached and demanded cash and valuables, which included a $55,000 wristwatch.

Wow.  Twice?  Is this some kind of karmic punishment for spending his entire career never fulfilling his potential and team-hopping in search of getting a championship ring?  Well, that's a ridiculous notion and cruel to even suggest.  But yes.  Yes, it totally is.
