Matt Cooke: Still A Jerk

Written by samerochocinco / 02.07.11

In Sunday’s game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals, sh-t went down when notorious asshat Matt Cooke stuck out his knee to flip Alex Ovechkin onto his face. Immediately, play stopped, and a giant group hug immediately occurred in Pittsburgh’s zone. I’m pretty sure all the players just wanted to tell the other team how they were doing such a great job and putting in so much effort. Who says the NHL isn’t welcoming and accessible?

Ovechkin Puts On Delicious Shooting Clinic

Written by samerochocinco / 12.31.10

Former James Bond villain Alex Ovechkin visited ESPN to prove just how great he is at sniping. No, he didn’t shoot Tony Kornheiser in the back of the head (sadly), but instead whacked pucks at a goal covered with Russian dolls filled with Russian dressing. It’s because he’s Russian, get it?

As you can predict, it turned out to be an awesome idea. Stuff broke, and condiments went everywhere. Before you ask, yes: there is slow motion. Video after the jump.

Jeremy Roenick Has A Future In TV

Written by Ashley Burns / 12.21.10

Retired NHL journeyman Jeremy Roenick was a special guest on The Price Is Right yesterday and while I have no idea why other than he was available, the whole thing was about as ass-backwards and uncomfortable as you can imagine, yet surprisingly fun. From Roenick getting his hug on with Lauren, the cute contestant who should call me, to his goofball fist-pumping, the former Blackhawk did a pretty good job, especially when it came to almost completely ignoring host Drew Carey. Their high five belongs in the White People Hall of Fame.

But for added comedy, Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals stars Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin recorded separate video appearances and I can’t get through Crosby’s “We’re playing these guys ootdoors” without giggling like a stoned toddler. All in all, it’s a pretty solid performance by Roenick with bonus points for making a joke about his inability to win a Stanley Cup. Dan Marino would have thrown a hissy fit and broke the TV before wetting his pants and running off set.

Video clips after the jump…

Talbot on Ovechkin: ‘A Real Douche’

Written by Ryan Walsh / 07.28.10

The NHL’s two biggest stars, Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin, are also the league’s two biggest rivals. Their hatred has boiled over to the rest of their teammates on overrated teams that choked against the Canadians the Pens and Caps. And much like an enforcer who steps in to fight for his star, Pittsburgh forward Max Talbot recently spoke trash about Ovechkin to keep his star out of the headlines.

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Max Talbot began a war of words with Washington Capitals superstar Alexander Ovechkin on Tuesday while Talbot was promoting the upcoming 2011 NHL Winter Classic between the Pens and Caps at Heinz Field on New Year’s Day.

“The first time I met him, actually, when I met him off the ice,” Talbot told The X. “You hear a lot of stories about a guy, but sometimes they’re not true. You hear of guys who are not good guys, and you’re like, ‘Yeah, okay, I’ll give the guy a shot.’ The first time I met him, let’s say he didn’t give the best impression to me, so better reason to hate him even more.”

“I was actually at the NHL Awards last summer with (Evgeni) Malkin, and we brought the Stanley Cup over there after the season,” Talbot told The X. “Malkin knew Ovechkin, and introduced me to him, and the first impression wasn’t great. I’m not really gonna say what happened, but I’m like, ‘Ok, this guy is a real (expletive deleted) (the ‘expletive’ is douche — ED).’ ” –TSN

So he met Ovechkin, thinking he was a douche, and decided to label him a douche after meeting him once? What’s not to like about Alex? Sure, he’s Russian, and by definition a Communist, but at least he’s not Canadian. Say what you will about the tenets of Communism, at least it’s an ethos, dude. Read the rest of this entry »

Ovechkin Wants You To Drop A Beat

Written by Ryan Walsh / 07.08.10

When you’re an international hockey superstar whose hardest decision is which group of babes you’re going to party with tonight, what else is there for you to do? What’s the next medium you can conquer? How will people remember you, outside of your incredible ice moves? Alex Ovechkin has been plagued by such a circumstance, and has found the answer. Getting in the studio and recording a track for your smoke-show girlfriend.

Alexander Ovechkin recorded a song for his girlfriend, along with the artist Dzhigan of Black Star Inc. Russia’s forward wants to be a star not only on the ice. Very soon a real surprise is awaiting the true fans of hockey and the fans of rap. [In Soviet Union, song raps you. -Ed]

It is unlikely that the song that was co-created with artist Dzhigan of Black Star Inc. will appear on live radio, but hopefully it would seep into the internet.

The best hockey player is not giving the name of a lucky girl to whom he devoted his premiere creation, the 24-year-old hockey player only said that at this time it’s “all very serious.” –Alex Ovetjkin via Washington Post

Alex is a little late on coming out with the 2010 jam of the summer, but I’m still counting down the days until this track debuts. Only because I want to hear the track in Russian. Much like German, whenever someone’s speaking in Russian, it sounds like you could very easily get killed. That’s why Russian women sound so seductive. Death is the ultimate aphrodisiac.
