Earlier today Brandon posted a highlight reel of the best high school basketball dunks from 2012, which was all well and good except for the part where here we are, only a few hours later, and the whole compilation has been rendered moot. According to this blog post, high school sophomore Victor Dukes did the dunk pictured above in a game that took place on December 31, which is notable for a few important reasons:
- December 31 was in 2012, making it eligible for said list.
- Holy crap, look where his head is.
- HOLY CRAP, his name is Victor Dukes. VICTOR DUKES. That sounds like the name of an evil businessman in a Disney movie who is shutting down the local street hockey rink to build a strip mall or something. “But … but … we can’t take on Victor Dukes! We’re just a bunch of kids!” “Exactly. He’ll never see it coming.”
- HOLY CRAP HE IS A SOPHOMORE. So he’s, like, what, 16? Jeeeeeeeeeeesus.
Anyway, the video is posted below. As With Leather’s resident dunk expert, please know that everything about this video makes me both excited and incredibly jealous. I can’t decide if I should hate young Victor Dukes or rip off my shirt and zoom around my apartment shouting “OH BABY! OH BABY!” like someone up and made my living room Rucker Park. I suppose I should just do both to be safe.

This better be real, and not just some viral campaign, and in a month I see an ad on TV where a bunch of people say “Victor Dukes” over and over and over again, and then it ends with his dad saying “I have someone I want you to meet”, and it turns out to be a recruiter for Duke University.
Agreed.
But if it’s real, he drove home in the Escalade Calipari had delivered to the school.
LMAO
So many HOT DUNKZ being slammingly dunked today on With Leather, ME SO HAPPY!
I once dunked a crushed soda can on a hoop near the local beach that might have not been regulation height. True Story
he must be wearing PF Flyers
When I watched the slomo version, it looked like he was on an escalator.
DUNKERRRRRRRTTTTTTTTTONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!
If its real its unlike any jump I have ever seen at any level. The trajectory doesnt even make sense – its like he gets to where a freak athlete like Steve Francis or Nate Robinson gets and then hits the smash bros double jump.
First: Everyone’s right, this dunk is amazing. Just…wow.
Second: I think the reason Dukes’ trajectory is strange, and the reason he gets that extra vertical, is because of the contact he makes with the defender. We don’t see most of it (another player blocks the camera), but it looks like Dukes got an extra “push” from the poor soul he crushes.
Third: This dunk is still amazing. He’s a high school sophomore. Ridiculous.
How the hell does a high school have a video screen in their gym with a slow motion replay?
This is in a tournament played in the Arkansas State University Convocation Center, it’s not a high school gym.
He stepped on the guy, to get that high!
He stepped on the guy, to get that high!
Hey, Rick! I never made a slam dunk before. Thanks for the boost.
timely…
Anyone ever been boosted up by a friend when they put their hands together and lift? The defending player was trying not to move, but flinched at the last minute, pulling his hands up and taking Victor Dukes with him. Not all caused by just the one kid’s awesome dunk skills, he just got a boost.
