Sorry for the delay on today’s WWE Raw open discussion thread, I just got back from a magical weekend at Chikara’s King Of Trios tournament in Easton, PA, and when I say “I just got back” I mean “I just walked into my home, put down my luggage and turned on the computer”. A few pre-show notes:
1. Tomorrow’s Best And Worst Of WWE Raw column will arrive like always. Remember, the 10 best comments from tonight’s open discussion thread get a featured spot alongside Jack Swagger Of Mars in the report.
2. I did not watch Night Of Champions, because I was live at (with no hyperbole) one of if not THE best North American independent professional wrestling shows of all-time. Screw that, best WRESTLING shows of all-time. Not using that lightly.
3. A Best And Worst Of King Of Trios will arrive on Wednesday. If between now and then I get a copy of Night Of Champions from somewhere, I’ll try to do something with it, even if it’s just me taking screencaps and writing NOT MANAMI TOYOTA across them in meme font.
Tonight’s Raw preview:
Night of Champions has come and gone, and the ramifications will surely be severe. WWE has a pair of Tag Team Champions that may or may not still hate each other; a World Heavyweight Champion whose dominance is reaching a fever pitch; and to top it all off, a controversial outcome to the WWE Champion CM Punk–John Cena rivalry that’s sure to keep WWE’s top two competitors at each other’s throats for some time.
Also, the “road to Hell In A Cell” has begun, whatever that is.

One thing that is really starting to bother me is Zack Ryder is still popular and the WWE is using him again, yet nobody seems to want to sit him down and teach him some bloddy wrestling moves. I really want to like Zack Ryder, but, he’s gotta do a little something more in the ring than he’s showing.
Worsts: Raw starting an hour later in Western Canadia, resulting in not really being able to contribute. Other worst include Brodus Clay probably winning the IC title from the Miz at Hell in the Cell, Sheamus and Del Rio fought again.
Bests: My hopes of of Lawler announcing his retirement are still possible, It’s about time WWE acknowledged Breast Cancer, D Bry and Kane are awesome and I hope they become broskis, Damien Sandow is still amazing and they finally named dropped Eve having Gracie BJJ training. Maybe we’ll get to see it soon.
Eve was using a few interesting choke holds and leg locks at NoC against Layla, and absolutely no coochie-pops or moonsaults. So I think they’re moving that way with her. Perhaps to set her up for a feud with Sara Del Rey?
Yeah, I didn’t get a chance to comment about them during NoC since I was watching the 49ers do footballs to the Lions, but Eve busted out a body triangle (No RNC attempt, sadly) and a reverse triangle choke on Layla on Sunday.
I was so tired I fell asleep during Kane/Bryan stuff, which was probably great and gives a good indication of how tired I was.

Friday After Next is a Christmas tradition in my family.
I watched the whole thing too. I can never not laugh at Smokey defacating outside his house :D
Smokey taking a dump outside his house is great. That’s the problem with Friday, there are so many good scenes that every time I think about turning it off, I think to myself…”but, wait, this really great scene is coming up!”
Our Christmas tradition is a much more pedestrian Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. I might be a little jealous of Friday After Next.

Tomorrow when I rewatch Raw from the beginning it will be a pleasant surprise to have the first 15 minute of Friday on there. Why will it be a surprise if I am watching it now you ask? Because I’m watching Friday so my short term memory may not quite be what it was about 5 mintues ago. #cough.

All 3 nights. It tells a story and all 3 nights are good. It’s just that Night 3 is magic.
I’m tempted to say no just because it will ruin you for all other wrestling ever. But do it because it is magical and will fill you with feels.
John Witherspoon is amazing.
I used to routinely play NHL 99 against Gilbert Arenas (and give him my sociology, music history & environmental science notes) when we were both freshman at U of A. One day he told me his uncle was coming by the room and lo and behold it’s goddam John Witherspoon. I would love to say there was an amazing punchline to this story but alas I sheepishly said, “I loved you in Friday” and walked out of the room.

Trios broke Smart Marks Video in general. While I’m thrilled for them, I’m sad for me, because I dragged my feet in ordering.
Time for me to go back to watching Episode 7 of NXT Season Four. I hope Conor O’Brian wins it all.

Richie Steamboat does something and it’s boring as anything.
But then everything else is totally great.

SO Punk says he knows there isn’t instant replay, which to me signals that he knows he can’t get the decision changed but is just seeking acknowledgment and maybe an apology for the screw up that is clearly visible on the replay. But he’s going to be the bad guy for being completely reasonable. K cool guys.
