With Leather coverage tends to veer toward the faker sports (WWE, LeBron James’ reaction to being touched during basketball games, busty co-eds incorrectly asking out Jeremy Lin for YouTube hits) but we’re doing it big for this weekend’s UFC 145 pay-per-view event.
Starting at 7PM/10PM PST/EST this Saturday, April 21, With Leather will be enlisting the help of FilmDrunk editor and UPROXX resident UFC expert Vince Mancini to live-blog the event. Not only that, but we’ll have UFC vet and current UFC.com writer Daniel “Danny Boy” Downes in the house to give his professional perspective.
It’s gonna be a grand time, and if you miss it I will personally come to your house and kick you in the gut until you get diverticulitis. Bookmark THIS LINK. Nothing’s there yet, but that’s where it’ll be.

I am eager to repeat the phrase “rear naked choke” ad nauseum.

I’m eager to be repeatedly insulted or told I’m wrong. I was raised Irish Catholic — it’ll make me feel at home.
My idea was to give John Lovejoy a verified account and have him flail his arms around and run at you the whole time.
Well, buddy, my mother was Irish Catholic and my father was German Catholic (and I practice Klingon Theistic Kahlessism). I will do my best to get shitfaced, criticize you, and guilt trip you into doing things you don’t want to while I stoically accept the harm I am causing you. Yay! Support groups are fun!
Two words…no, not “Mmmm, beefy!”…FUCK and YES!
Hooray, finally another UFC live thread/discussion!
I hope it goes live before Saturday so I can talk about Bellator and TUF Live on Friday!
Yes please. The conversations on other MMA sites have no humor and every time you have a criticism of a fighter, some asshat asks you how many MMA fights you have been in.
/dick joke
I kind of enjoy some of the discussions on the Something Awful forum, but a lot of those guys seem to have way too much knowledge, and it overwhelms me sometimes.
At least they routinely acknowledge that certain fighters are terrible, or at least, bad people!

In full disclosure, I plan on saying, “You wouldn’t understand,” or being condescending whenever necessary. I feel it brings more to the discussion. And by more, I mean hostility
Prelims on Facebook? I’m almost afraid to ask how I’d go about seeing those.
I want to say all you’ve got to do is like the ufc’s page, but i don’t remember. that’s all i use my shell of a facebook account for.
NOOBCAKES! UFC streams them free on their facebook page :D
[www.facebook.com]
Guy’cha, just go to the UFC facebook page.
I honestly just want to discuss MMA all day now. Blargles that this thread is up…
Somebody needs to create a fake Joe Rogan account for this.
There were bad times the last time Joe Rogan was mentioned on WL.
Huh…well this should be interesting then
Here it is: [withleather.uproxx.com]
I’m not gonna be by a computer Saturday so I wanna get my W/L MMA chat out of my system while I can. Here my 2 cents on the main event. I think Jones is the best P4P fighter right now and will likely go down as the best ever but with that said I think Rashad has a real shot if he can get the obvious takedowns. Bones also hasn’t faced anyone with as quick of a knockout shot as Rashad. Not sure who has the real mental edge, everyone says Rashad but it almost seems like his animosity towards the Jackson camp has became an unhealthy obsession. The Jackson camo has even gone as far as to write down every single combo Evans has ever been hit with. I’ve always been an Evans fan and it always boggles my mind how he still gets booed to this day. Even though I want to see Rashad get the belt back,I really want to see Jones vs Henderson who I consider the G.O.A.T as of right now. If Bones were to beat Evans and Henderson I think that could make him the G.O.A.T at 25. I also want to see how Jones reacts to someone like Henderson bringing an all out war.
Anyway, those are my thoughts.Have at it
I agree with a lot of what you just said. I was a fan of Rashad since TUF2, especially when I saw how pissy Hughes got with his showboating (And subsequent complete domination shitty, rapey Mike Whitehead).
Boner Joner is a tough test for everyone, but Rashad has speed, wrestling, and knockout power in a combination that I don’t know if Jones’ past opponents have had.
As for the mental aspect, I wonder if the early failures of the Blackzilians has put any extra pressue on Rashad.
I’m also mixed on how I want the fight to turn out. Part of me wants Rashad to win/Jones to lose, but I’d also like to see Hendo get a shot at Jones’ chin, and hopefully, that magnificent, grizzled, old man can drop a H-bomb and become the most awesomest man in all the lands (Unless he moves up to fight JDS, which would also be super-rad)
I agree that Bones is the best right now. If he fought Anderson Silva, he’d wreck Silva, as I think he’ll wreck Evans. This is a young man’s sport (although Henderson is an exception) and Rashad is much older than Jones in fighting years. I think Evans’ injuries and ring rust will be a huge difference, especially if this fight goes into the later rounds.
Oh, and the rest of this card blows.
I think this will be an entertaining card. It doesn’t have much for star power outside the main event, but I think there are a lot of good fighters matched up. But it’s whatever, I’m ready.
Danny – how often do you get hit with some kind of crazy kick from Pettis or Koch or anyone else up at RoufusSport? Also, Duke Roufus might be the best name, right? I mean, other than the fact that it could be cruelly shortened to Doufus.

Erik doesn’t usually throw crazy stuff. Just good ol’ fashioned legs to your dome. Look at what he did to Francisco Rivera as proof. Anthony, on the other hand, is always pulling something crazy out. After sparring him long enough (since about 2006) I can tell when he’s about to do it, but it took a looooooong time to figure it out. So unless you’ve sparred the guy for six years, I don’t like your chances of reading his kicks. Additionally, his boxing has really improved the last year so his set ups are stronger.
Duke Roufus is a good fight name. We also call him Zeus from time to time.
Is Belcher training up there for the Palhares fight? He’s done a couple of seminars at my gym down here in Memphis. Probably the fight I’m looking forward to the most besides Silva/Sonnen II. I know this has become cliche but styles make fights and this one is a prime example. I hope the winner of that fight gets the next title shot instead of Munoz or Belfort
Wow.Just saw where Lombard just got offered a UFC contract. Looks the middleweight division is finally starting to heat up
Man, Belcher is a semi-favorite of mine, partly due to his slight Mississippi connection (Lived there for almost 10 years) and his Johnny Cash tattoo is marvelous. Paul Harris, though, is a leg-snatching gremlin. It should be a good fight.
Lombard, fresh from cutting Shlemenko’s brakes, is going to jump ship to the UFC!
What part of the ‘Sipp.I live in North Mississippi in Southaven. Yeah Belcher’s intro is dope. That’s why I’m one of the few John Fitch fans in the world too.
Used to live in Petal, so pretty damn south compared to you.
Ain’t nothing wrong with being a Fitch fan.
Tom Lawlor’s Dress-Up Time is another good entrance.
GSP coming out to Juicy was pretty wild. Doesn’t fit him whatsoever but still awesome. Chael’s Alan Jackson “I aint ever had too much fun” is such a letdown. if you’re gonna go the corny country route then atleast go balls to the wall and crank some Toby Keith like a real American damnit
The classics are great, too. Wand and “Sandstorm”, Hendo and “Lunatic Fringe”, and of course, anyone that uses “Pride” is awesome.
And, as much as I dislike Matt Hughes, “A Country Boy Can Survive” is a very appropriate song for him.

Yup, Alan is here training for Palhares. He’s a great guy. Except for when he broke my dishes when he stayed with me before his fight against Wilson Gouveia. Come to think of it, he never replaced those…
Will I be called a bully or “male gorrilla” if I know a single thing about MMA?
Only if you’re humorless!
Tip to the neophyte viewers: When Mike Goldberg or Joe Rogan call a fighter ‘explosive’ or ‘athletic’ that means the guy is black.
Take a drink everytime Joe gushes over a leg kick. Have a backup case ready when you’re out by the end of the preliminary card.
/love ya Joe. Get that ice out of there!
If the fight hits the ground and the guy on bottom grabs his foot (INITIATE MISSION CONTROL, RUBBER GUARD HAS BEGUN!), that is Joe’s favorite fighter until the next guy that does it.
You know, the inaugural UFC live blog should have been timed for a card featuring Rousimar Palhares. Pulling one of his patented ‘crazy spells’ could carry a live blog discussion for hours.
the first one (that i missed, due to watching the ppv with friends/family) was lesnar/overeem, because brandon = pro wrestling fan.
this time, though, i’ll be all alone and drunk out of my mind, shouting rampage jackson-esque coaching at fighters “WRECK HIM!”
They had one of these already and I wasn’t invited? I see how it is.
I’m partial to Bisping’s word’s of encouragement and strategy: “Get Up!”
Yeah, I was disappointed when I found out after the fact there was a live thread. I’ve asked Brandon like once or twice about putting one up since then, but no dice.
“It’s okay, he’s being coached grappling by Michael Bisping!” Oh, Jason Miller, if only you were in shape for that fight…
Not advice, but I still like GSP telling a ref (Or maybe Koscheck) “It’s okay, it’s half guard” during the threat of a stand-up.
With Leather got Danny Boy Downes? Wow, impressive. Brandon and Vince must have so much more pull than I thought.
I heard Vince convinced Danny by sobbing on his voicemail.
I’m almost as excited for tonight as I am for Dos Santos vs. Overeem, which is going to be the greatest heavyweight fight of all time!
This is going to be an incredible fight. Both Jones and Evans are malicious strikers – expect broken faces and a memorable KO – Danny Boy Downes in the house!
