Even though I missed the open thread last night, I had to stop in to ask if anyone else during their Royal Rumble Marathon (oh come on, I’m not the only one right?) noticed that during Royal Rumble 2004, Ernest “The Cat” Miller’s entrance music is “Somebody Call My Mama” currently being used by Brodus Clay? So poor Brodus get’s a recycled gimmick along with recycled music? Guess Jim was too busy with the new Uso & Barrett themes. Poor Funkasaurus :(

Didn’t get to participate last night so I wanted to stop by and just say a few things.
I watched this with some friends, had some beers, and I had a lot of fun with the PPV. Maybe the RR didn’t tell a story or whatever but, I was thoroughly entertained. My best is easily: Ricardo Rodriguez…I had tears in my eyes laughing so hard at him coming out in the hoopty. Especially after hearing the entrance music I thought it was ADR coming out. It went from great to best.
I’m sure a lot of people had a similar moments of reaction as I did but, I had to come hear to tell someone other than my wife who didn’t watch it.
Same here. While not the greatest PPV in recent memory, it kept us entertained and we had a good time. I also agree that Ricardo as ADR was the biggest pop in my house.
Can I redeem my badge for an animated gif of the arched-back ass thing that Naomi and Cameron do before entering the ring?

This ppv suffered from over-expectations. Divas match was unwanted filler, but was somewhat salvaged by Phoenix at the end. Cenavs. Kane w/Professor Xand Emmy award winning Eve was just the same crap we have seen every week and disliked. Punk/Ziggler was good, but was also the same thing we have seen for weeks minus the ending that Johnny needed to save his job. Although I’m not overly happy with Ziggler being pinned ao easily and often by Punk throughout the match. The Rumble itself had some awful entrants and pacing. Take out Cole, Lawler, and some of the tag team guys for more serious competitors. It also seemed to be such a short match with mini spots that may or may not develop into anything further.
Still, personal bests for Bryan winning cleanly, Beth Phoenix, Kharma, Ziggler’s reversal of the GTS, Ricardo, Foley helping Ricardo and not looking completely past his prime, an ending I didn’t expect, and Sheamus/Bryan for WM.
Also, why does only Booker T support Bryan?
Hopefully the Divas division could be spared by Regal joining Pin-Up Strong, and six man matches tag between the newly constituted PUS and Brodus w/ the Funkettes can take us through the next few months.
Daniel Bryan has a losing streak, beats up on some NXT wrestlers and becomes World Champion afterwards. Sheamus feuds with Jinder Mahal for a month and wins the Royal Rumble. Clearly this is shaping up towards Brodius Clay winning a title at elimination chamber or money in the bank at wrestlemania.
and also, I met Sheamus at the Atlanta airport and it took everything in my power to not say, “OYL FIGHT ‘EM!” Nice guy, though

I just watched the show, and…..the fuck. I thought the world was gonna end. Jericho told me so, and I was ready for it too. Canned goods, flashlights, batteries and all. JERICHO OWES ME SOME WORLD ENDING!!!
This Wrestlemania is gonna be REAL Irish. Here is my commentary prediction:

aww yeah!! badge!! The show wasn’t that bad. I was entertained. But I’ll be damned if I wasn’t excited by Cody lasting so long in the Rumble.
Sigh… Despite all of my planning, life gets in the way, and I don’t get to see the Rumble. No poopiez. No #bigjohnny. Nothing. I am sad.
Ok and looking back and reading everything. You guys are all awesome and deserve all the bests that brandon can legally give out.

There could be a couple bests:
Del Rio telling Ricardo how proud he is of his attempt at the rumble. Because they have that type of relationship.

And the Funkasuarus. Because he’s a the last one in captivity and every time he’s on the screen I smile.

My only question is how did that set up anything for Wrestlemania. Seriously?!?! How did that happen, and as much as I love him what was the purpose of the funkasuarus match.

the thing about their explicit “everyone gets to be in the rumble” rule: for me a good deal of the charm of the thing is seeing combinations of people who you’d never see together in any other way. i love it when guys like yoshi tatsu and tyson kidd rush in and actually manage their three seconds of offense on your hbks or your bobbies lashley. that *never happens*! a lot of that gets to happen because at least a couple of pretty big guys are likely to be occupied with undercard matches. also: big show gets into the rumble match, henry and funkasaurus don’t? lame.
so in that way i was disappointed. they could’ve bumped the match back up to 40 people to help give trent baretta his one moment in the sun.
King offended tonight by the presence of way to many mexicans and women in the rumble
I guess the “end of the world as we know it” isn’t so bad after all. I still have rice pudding, so that’s a plus.

Thanks everyone for helping to make this PPV worth the time and money. Had MrsTHESTINGER and I been watching this at home we would have checked out in favor of King of the Hill or something. The community Brandon has created here has really made even a bad night worth while. You guys are the best even when wrestling is the worst. <3
I can’t be the only one who’s bored as fuck with the smiling jokey Sheamus. Give me the baddass “OIL FOUGHT EM” Sheamus and maybe this will be interesting, but the last 4 months bored the shit out of me.
For a while it looked like, or I was really hoping it would be, that Sheamus would become an old school Dungeons and Dragons true neutral Druid and just come out to even the odds no matter who was involved. I want Sheamus to be an unpredictable berserker who only cares about having good fights.

Better than I was expecting
Well this is a fucking worst. I left for awhile because the site was fucking up, but my bests and worsts:
Best : Kofi’s lame Riddler tights, Ricardo ( period), Kharma, D Bry with the win, Big Johnny plays nice.
worst: everyfucking thing else. 3 announce spots in the match while people sit in the back? Who cares about Sheamus?

I mean, Sheamus is a big name that has spent the last few months beating up Heath Slater and Jindar Mahal. He needs something to do.
Punk and Jericho’s feud will develop organically, it isn’t like Jericho needs the Royal Rumble win to get around to being pissed off at Punk or anything. If this moves D Bry past his feud with Big Show and Hall of Pain and gives Sheamus something to do than it’s fine.
It was still a pretty bad PPV, though.
Give Sheamus to Kane. His ‘okie dokie big fella’ schtick would work well with boring-ass Kane, until Zack embraces the hate after Mania.

So analysis (he, I said anal). Not worth the money really, maybe 30 bucks worth. Ziggler/Punk was a good match but outcome never in doubt. other matches were lousy. Enjoyed the Rumble overall. Didn’t see Sheamus ever winning but glad it was him and not Jericho.

The ending is terribly confusing. But in general, the match was solid, I suppose. I guess we can still get to Punk/Jericho at WM; one assumes Sheamus/Bryan then. Both solid matches. Why not. I just hope we keep getting more of Zack “Grimey” Ryder.
