Nice to see a more rational, educated argument against SOPA, instead of ITS THE END OF THE INTERNETS ARRGGH BLARRGHG. I agree, I support the whole anti piracy campaign, I can just see them going way overboard with it.
Once you relinquish a freedom it’s exponentially harder to get it back. The Patriot Act legalized warrantless wire-taps. See, they’re good for keeping up with terrorists and their terror plots. Or drug dealers and their savvy machinations. Or an up-and-coming political figure who doesn’t sit well with the status quo. Or anybody for any reason, who’s gonna ask anyway? Not like a court order was necessary or anything.
If you can accuse a website of doing something naughty and have it taken down almost immediately, how long will it be before that power will be abused? I think almost immediately.
