Normally this would be the place I’d hype our Best And Worst Of WWE Smackdown Live-Blog, but tonight is the big UFC 141 event live on pay-per-view from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, and we’re keeping it real. The live-blog will return starting next week, but for now I want to know where you’re watching the fights, what you think’s gonna happen, what you think WHILE it’s happening and what you thought when it was done.
So, open discussion thread. I’m not the most schooled-in-MMA blogger out there, so let me know what to expect, and what I should be excited for beyond a geometric shape full of blood and the possibility of an F5. Let me hear you, jerks! If this goes well (and gets more than the usual four comments* in comparison to WWE’s 100+) we’ll keep it going, and I’ll make an effort to cover more things that are actually sports.

I think Overeem crushes Lesnar in the 2nd. And Brandon, start with Pride FC, especially the old stuff. Japanese MMA has more of a wrestling feel and is a lot more fun.
I briefly tried to get into Pride and fell in love with how they did big match entrances. They absolutely DESTROY pro wrestling in that regard.

Japanese MMA is also way way more fixed so you’ve got the wrestling connection there, too.
Is that the one where I get to see Liger or whoever randomly get the shit beaten out of them for 30 seconds every few months? Because puroresu guys going into MMA is always hilarious.
Well you’ll get to see Warren Sapp and one of the ODDITIES! They both have a ton of fights in Pride and other assorted Eastern orgs.

This is free on the 360? I’m in the middle of trying to fix mine from RROD.
They have a UFC app on the 360 now, earlier in the week they had a deal where you could order this PPV streaming through your console (in SD) for free. It ended but Microsoft said they were wanting to bring it back before the event started.
I’ve never watched UFC before, but if you’re going to cover it I might check out a bit of it. Where/what on there can I watch (legally, for free). I’m figuring the facebook fights are on facebook, the spike ones are on spike tv, but what about the main card. is it free or ppv? also, when is it?

Brock turtles whenever he gets punched. Overeem is good at punching. I don’t think it’s going to go well for the destroyer of gophers.
Also, WWE wishes they could write a heel character anywhere near as despicable as Nate Diaz.

then lesnar rips off overeem’s prosthetic leg, beats him with it, and throws him down the stairs to win the fight

Guess I might go to the bar tonight. I mean, I can either spend 30 bucks or however much this costs on PPV and sit at home or I can get some horrible draft beer and eat french fries and smoke indoors for the same price.
I swear to god, I will scream so loud tonight that I will wake up my 2 year old son in the next room if Brock busts out an F5.
As for the fight, I have a few buddies coming over, I got the HD stream through the Xbox app for free (as I did for last month’s PPV as well) and I am excited. Was beta testing the app so for anyone who is checking it out that method, if you are like me, you won’t want to watch UFC any other way after this.
I got Brock in the 2nd round is my prediction for the big fight.
I would also mark out if he won with the Stretch Muffler.
I can only hope that he busts out an SSP from the top of the Octagon and almost breaks his neck again.

The prelims went as expected besides the Njokuani decision. Jacob Volkmann may be getting another visit from the secret service. He gives worse postfight interviews than Dennis Hallman.

They’re obviously still beta testing the system. Doing the first big run through with a Brock fight was probably not the brightest idea.
Johny Hendricks starching Jon Fitch will probably be the highlight of the night.

I don’t have the level of Fitch hate that most MMA fans do, but that was a pretty sweet knockout.
I don’t hate Fitch. I usually enjoy the grappling clinics he puts on, but watching a lay and pray artist get KTFO is always fun.
I need to go rewatch Rory MacDonald slamming Nate Diaz over and over again to get the taste of that fight out of my mouth.
If the night ends with Brock getting pounded back into the WWE, this won’t be a total loss.

he has literally nothing to gain from mma at this point, he’ll make better easier money in wrestling. But the UFC is getting fucked on PPV draws, with GSP out and Brock retiring, they’ve only got Jones left

I wish I knew there was an open thread for this event, because I would’ve been right there with everyone making crappy wrestling analogies. Ross Pearson = British Bulldog, because England; Overeem = Rock, because blackish; and Lesnar = Santino (twist!) because he had one or two big wins when he first started but is just showing up for a paycheck at this point.
Please continue these, I promise to keep coming back to comment in a not completely obnoxious way!
