One of the things we love most here at the Uproxx Fortress of Porn Solitude is free porn a good meme. And when that meme combines with sports, well then we’re happier than a kitten with its head stuck in a can of Pringles. Unfortunately, this world is full of those stupid old people who don’t get jokes. What do we call them? Oh yeah, adults.
Kirtland High School laid a 49-7 spanking on Painesville Harvey in Ohio football action Friday night, and we would have never heard a word about it if it weren’t for those meddling kids and their no-good memes. After the game, a banner was displayed with the popular phrase “U Mad Bro?” as Painesville left the field. Nobody could possibly be mad about that, right?
Y U NO GET SARCASM???
“At the conclusion of the game, some of their students and parents put up a sign that we believe was racial intimidation, ethnic intimidation,” said Roderick Coffee, president of the Lake County chapter of the NAACP, who was also at the game.
“For them to put it up there that was bad sportsmanship, too,” Painesville Harvey football player, Jerome Becks said.
“I think the reference to ‘bro’ in the sign definitely has a racial connection to it,” said Michael Hanlon, superintendent for Painesville City Schools. (Via Fox 8 Cleveland)
As Gawker points out, the “U MAD?” meme was created after rapper Cam’ron appeared on “The O’Reilly Factor,” so I guess because he’s indeed African-American there’s a racial element to it. But I don’t think I should really need to point out that the kids who hung the banner were most likely (99.9%) just playing on the meme and didn’t think about race for a second.
Of course, nothing would surprise me, but when it comes to teenagers making a simple joke based on a popular Internet meme vs. crotchety old adults who wouldn’t know Business Cat from their buttholes, I’m going with the kids on this one. This is why people older than 40 should be required by law to take classes on things like the Internet, hip hop music, slang, and teenage fashion. It would save so much time.
But just for fun, I checked in with some of the most popular Internet meme stars to get their opinions on the matter.

Roderick Coffee went on to say, “They was bojangelin’ us, damn whiteys.”
somebody direct these guys to the Black Man meme from UPROXX a few days ago
“racial intimidation, ethnic intimidation”
Yeah, “u mad bro” signs are the modern day equivalent of nooses and burning crosses.
I think Meme looks too much like Mammy
Alright if it isn’t completely obvious, as someone who lives in the area I’ll point this out. Kirtland is full of rich white kids, and Painesville is full of the opposite of rich white kids. Obviously, it has to be racial, right?
At any rate, I love when old people don’t understand memes and look stupid when trying to act outraged about them.
In that case, I’ll tilt the scales back to 80/20 for meme/racism. I still don’t think it’s intentional racism as much as it’s some rich white kids who spend a lot of time on Reddit. I call people bro all the time, but it’s mostly because I’m a douchebag.
I would call other black people bro…if I had black friends, that is. Alas.
