The ISU World Figure Skating Championships took place in Moscow over the past weekend, but you already knew that because I assume we were all watching it with breathless anticipation. In all seriousness, I consider figure skating as much of a sport as tap dancing, but it is a competition and something fun caught my eye, so here is your one and only figure skating post at With Leather for this year. What’s that? We had one the other day? Fabulous!
Russian duo Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov won the silver medal for their performance, a tribute to Super Mario Brothers. Maxim portrayed a video game nerd bringing Tatiana’s Mario to life, and that may be the most inadvertently perverted sentence I’ve ever written. While I commend them for their creativity, I’m still pretty disappointed in the lack of Princess Peach. Then again, I wouldn’t expect figure skating to promote sexy women for the male audience.
Perhaps Tatiana and Maxim would have won the gold medal if their performance was anything like the majestic production that was Mario on Ice.

Don’t know what it is but a woman portraying a little fat Italian plumber with a thick mustache just isn’t doing it for me tonight.
Though this is probably the closest thing to porn I’ll get at work all night…
/heads to bathroom
//will now forever be turned on by Mario

This wasn’t their silver medal winning performance. Actual competitive programs are much harder than that. The team that won did a routine to Pink Panther with the female in a pink catsuit…
They are thrilled with silver though. Tatiana and Maxim just started skating together this season. They both skated with other people/other countries until recently. Maxim always skated for Russia, but Tatiana for the Ukranians.
The Ukranians are currently cursed with the best female pairs skaters in the World. Two girls originally from the Ukranian (Aliona now skating for Germany) and Tatiana were 1-2 at this years worlds. The joke is Aliona was cloned and then came Tatiana. The story is though that the Ukranians had no decent male partners for them, that could win World titles/didn’t make the effort. So Aliona went to Germany and is now a 3 time world champ, Olympic medalist. And last year there began talk that Tatiana would be looking for a new partner. With about ever male pairs skater/skating country hoping Tatiana would pick THEM. The Russians won that sweepstakes because Trankov is probably the best males skater in the world. And we had a new dream team. They are already amazing (this exhibition doesn’t really show their stuff) but will be even better in time. A lot of people think this team will win Gold in Sochi. Which clone will reign supreme is the question for Sochi.
