Penn State will wear “new” unis this fall, and as you can see from the images above, the changes are next to pointless. The only modification being made is that the trim on the sleeves and neck of the jerseys will be gone, leaving a bland base look with absolutely no detail whatsoever. Oh, except for the Nike swoosh. I’m sure Nike was just an innocent bystander in the whole thing and didn’t engineer this to sell more replica gear.
As if it wasn’t easy enough to recruit against the Big Ten, those schools in the south can now boast that their practice jerseys are even nicer than Penn State’s gameday apparel. It wasn’t enough that Penn State football has cold winters, no built-in TV market and a head coach that could die at any moment. No, they had to put themselves even farther in the hole. Next year they might even ban liquor and women from campus. Hey, look how well that works for BYU.

I like it. It’s almost a big FUCK YOU to Oregon, and Oregon deserves a bunch of FUCK YOUs.
This is the least sexy version of Photo Hunt ever.
Hey, the more boring the more we fans like it.
There are alums who are still pissed at the whole “numbers on the helmet” phase in the 60s and early 70s.
I’m not sure what you mean by “no built-in TV market”. State College is small, but PSU has a massive fanbase and bowl committees love to select the team because of great ratings.
Jeremy, you’re talking about a national fanbase. I don’t disagree.
JoePa’s not the one that tapped out like a bitch (see: Meyer, Urban)
this is huge news in happy valley. which should tell you everything you need to know about happy valley.
except the booze. its cheaper and more accessible than water there.
So let me get this straight:
Penn State’s boring, traditional uniforms: terrible
TCU’s wild, new-school uniforms: terrible
God I hate the internet sometimes. Why accomplish something in your life when you can criticize others for anything they do?
JoePa thought the old uniforms were so vibrant that he nearly had a stroke every time he saw them. This uni change ensures that Paterno will be alive for another 12-14 years.
They changed the jerseys so people would have to buy the new version.
I go to Penn State, and they take all of my money. I would have thought that they could afford to make some better changes.
Ah, well.
gee i guess alabama won’t recruit well due to their bland uniforms. what is this guy talking about?? i like the new/old look. it takes the uniform back to how it used to be.
Yeah let’s compare the 2010 number 1 party school in the country to BYU because their football team’s uniforms are a solid color.
@RomanCandle
Wild? What’s so ‘wild’ about TCU’s ’11 uniforms? Compared to Oregon, Boise, and several other Nike duds, those are pretty tame. Just a shoulder patch and difrerent number style.
Last I knew, alcohol was illegal on campus at PSU, but I haven’t been enrolled there since 2004. That was Graham Spanier’s big initiative, though, and led to a bunch of fliers being posted on telephone poles every year that said “Police State University” with GSpan made to look like a dictator (which he does pretty well by himself).
Whoever wrote this post is a clueless jackass. Don’t write about things about which you know nothing. Beaver Stadium is sold out all season long (more than 100,000 fans every game), so don’t talk about no TV market or fan base. Kirk Hirbsteit says it’s the best atmosphere in college football. And to mock the winningest coach in CFB history because of his age? Jerk. At least he wasn’t drummed out of his job for major violations like another Big Ten coach (now former coach).
Your a moron, its football not a fashion show. Maybe if Oregon would spend last time deciding what to wear they would have won the championship… Penn State is built on tradition, why change things if they arent broken? Plus these arent really new uniforms its going back to basics. But yea your right, i would totally base my decision on what school to attend on uniforms… This dude obviously didnt play football beyond junior varsity…
What’s funny is that they actually did ban alcohol from campus and PSU is now drryyyyy.
They’re going back to their look pre-1990′s, so its not like it’s new. They had to add the white trim because when nike came out with more structural support around edges (neck, sleeves), it was a different fabrick and they coulndn’t match the same blue and it looked dumb so they went with white. Now they have the technology to match colors, so they’re going back to the original. The SEC may have better practice jerseys than our game uniforms, but the SEC is filled with a bunch of hicks and thugs so we win!
So many issues with this post… this guy clearly has no clue on this topic:
1. That is photoshopped rendering of what they expect the jersey to look like. Google images of the new jersey to see what it actually looks like. I think it’s sweet.
2. I guess being the most popular team in the entire Northeast and owning Pennsylvania is not a built in TV network. Definitely nothing like Alabama or South Carolina have.
3. Josh Z. is obviously a flashy guy who would need a sticker on his helmet for every time he did something on the field.
4. I’m sure removing a stripe on the helmet will just bury them in recruiting. How are they expected to compete without that stripe?
