It seems every couple of weeks or so, there’s some popular personally that finally makes his or her way onto Twitter. TV stars Charlie Sheen and Conan O’Brien opened their respective accounts to much fanfare, but only a fraction of that enthusiasm for the Twitter debut of the ecumenical horse’s ass that is Michael Ray Wilbon.
Wilbon, who co-hosts ESPN’s “Pardon The Interruption,” has seen his popularity explode since jumping from The Washington Post to TV in 2001. Every original show that ESPN has done since then seems to parrot “PTI” in some way, where old gasbags from the newspaper world exchange uninformed opinions on current events in sports. Wilbon had been critical of and expressed reluctance in joining the world of 140 characters in the past, but the pressure to keep up with those already onboard was apparently too much for him to bear.
“Okay, I’ve resisted joining the Twitter revolution…but peer pressure made me do it…so here goes, be careful what you ask for!”
Some people will say, “Yeah, he shouldn’t have been so critical before, but it’s nice to finally have him on board.” I couldn’t agree less. This is just another example of Wilbon backtracking after talking out of his ass about something he never took time to understand. But Josh, you don’t understand he’s paid to have opinions. No, he’s paid to deliver informed opinions, which he seems to have no interest in creating, whether it’s about Sean Taylor or Stan Van Gundy or inciting brown-on-white violence toward Pete Carroll. Wilbon must have one of the greatest BlackBerrys ever if he’s able to thumb off tweets with his nose buried in Charles Barkley’s ass.

He’s a hypocrite for not using a new technology for a while and then ultimately deciding to use it?
He’s a hypocrite for talking shit about something he doesn’t understand and then jumping on board and acting like it’s no big whoop.
I admire your restraint, Punte. So many adjective choices for the headline.
How can one effectively insult Tony Kornheiser’s combover in a mere 140 characters?
People complain about Kornheiser but Wilbon gets on my nerve more to the point I’ve been watching PTI a lot less. He really showed his ass with his view on Hank Steinbrenner’s “to busy building mansions” comment a couple of months back.
Wilbon says the way he heard it was that Steinbrenner was saying “those people building mansions…there the people who are supposed come around the side with a plate to get their food…those people, the help, the servants, they shouldn’t be building these mansions because we in the big house at the top of the land we get to do that not those people.” Wilbon doesn’t seemed to have bothered to read the exact quote of Steinbrenner’s comment and just went on his rant after hearing the story second handed. Steinbrenner is an ass but you really have to be stupid to take that dig at Jeter to be in any way racist.
I can’t stand this asshole or that other asshole. They just ask each other pointless questions like, “Do you think the Bucs defense is overrated??” Then the two idiots will each take the opposite position and scream at each other like it’s the fucking British Parliament. Who gives a fuck? How do people watch that shit?
Around the Horn and PTI are the shiny things ESPN dangles in front of you while they steal your wallet and your dignity.
I gotta disagree with this one. I never really liked or disliked Wilbon, but the examples you use to back up your argument aren’t I don’t agree with.
1.) On the Sean Taylor article, maybe it wasn’t the best time but Sean Taylor was an asshole and a one or two mistakes away from being suspended by the NFL. So because he was able to stay out of trouble for a year and died we have to pretend he was this amazing person? It’s not surprising that he died, Sean Taylor wasn’t a bad person but he was an idiot. Sean Taylor lived in a shitty area with lots of crime and put he and his family in danger by living there. He was stupid because he continued to live in a shitty area while making millions of dollars and being a famous NFL player, and figured he couldn’t be touched cause he grew up on the streets. If I’m a criminal looking for the easy pay day and Sean Taylor lived in my shitty neighborhood I’d probably try to rob his house too. That being said Sean Taylor did protect the lives of his girlfriend and child, but the whole incident could have been avoided had he been smart enough and mature enough to move out of the ghetto that he lived in. So lets not pretend that Sean Taylor was killed at random. Sean Taylor is dead because of Sean Taylor.
2.) Stan Van Gundy is a jerkoff and has always been a jerkoff and Wilbon didn’t do anything unprofessional he simply reported that their were rumors he could be fired, ih and did I mention that Stan Van Gundy is a jerkoff?
3.)Sanchez’s dad should have punched Pete Carroll. Pete Carroll treated him like shit and just forgot about the season Sanchez just gave USC. Sanchez obviously made the right choice as he was the 5th overall pick and signed a 60 million dollar contract. Caroll was just butt hurt because he thinks Sanchez owed him to stay. He showed absolutely no respect for Sanchez or his decision and acted like an immature ungrateful bitch when Sanchez made the best decision for him. Of course just a few years later Carroll did the same thing by jumping ship to the NFL when he knew that USC was gonna get the hammer brought down by the NCAA, because he was doing stuff he shouldn’t have been doing (as does every college coach).
Fartbox, your just as big an asshole as Wilbon in what you said about Sean Taylor. Taylor lived in Palmetto Bay which is a middle class neighborhood and far from the crime filled ghetto you claim it to be. And Stan Van Gundy may not be the most personable guy but Whilbon talks out his ass a lot with alleged insider info. Stating someone will be fired like it’s a fact when it’s probably from so low level employee hearing shit second handed is piss poor reporting.
So… everyone who’s ever changed their mind, or has been convinced of something they previously opposed is a hypocrite?
Sounds about right.
Palametto Bay is surrounded by fucking ghetto. That neighborhood itself might have some nice houses, but the entire area around it is trash. I’ve driven through there plenty of times and its some nice houses surrounded by fucking projects. And Stan Van Gundy was being a little bitch because he may be a decent coach but he annoys the shit out of all his players, none of them like playing for the asshole. And like I said all Wilbon did was report a rumor that his job could be in Jeopardy he wasn’t calling for Van Gundy’s head he didn’t claim he was a bad coach, he just reported a rumor. Your an idiot.
