How bad of a coach in March is Bill Self of Kansas? Let’s not jump the gun here; the Jayhawks won the whole damn thing three years ago with Self in his fifth year at the helm. But that national championship is peppered with early-round losses against such powerhouses as Bradley, Bucknell and Northern Iowa. Does that overshadow four 30-win seasons in five years? I suppose that could be up for debate.
But this infographic from Tauntr, “Bill Self Choking Procedures,” is still awesome. I swear I saw this exact same card in the seat pocket on my flight this morning, right next to the Sky Mall catalog. Did you know they still take MAIL-IN ORDERS? Seriously. I might have to fill that out and pick up some Diet Tab and parachute pants.

Let us not overlook the fact that Self has made 1 Final Four in 18 seasons, of which he has spent 11 of those at traditional powers Illinois and Kansas. The man he replaced has made 3 in 8 years at UNC, with 2 National Titles. Self can definitely recruit (although not so much this year), but his coaching still leaves something to be desired.
Lets not forget the 7 straight League championships that KU has won under Bill. Oh and he has won the Big 12 Tournament (in March) the past 2 years. I’d take him over any coach for my school.. well maybe not over Coach K.. but he is scary looking so i say its a wash.

@Bates: There is no doubt that KU has sustained excellence in its league under Self. He did the same at Illinois and Tulsa. So what do you think is the NCAA Tourney shortcoming? Obviously it is impossible to go to the Final Four every year (unless you are Brad Stevens apparently). So do you think it is unlucky draws? Running into hot teams? Putting together teams that are built to win 30 but are not complete enough to beat every opponent?

If Mario hadn’t forgotten he sucks for those last few seconds the Bill Self hate would be more deserving. At least he’s been trying his best to make up for it in Miami
