Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers may have trounced the Atlanta Falcons 48-21 on Saturday, but it’s his pregame behavior that is earning him A**hole of the Week awards from many sites around these here interwebs. In a news report aired by WBAY-TV in Green Bay, Rodgers was shown ignoring the autograph request of Jan Cavanaugh, a cancer patient wearing pink Packers gear, at the airport as the team was preparing to leave for Atlanta. Even worse, Cavanaugh had just driven directly from a radiation treatment for the sole purpose of grabbing some autographs. Yeesh.
When I first broke got wind of this story, it was told to me by my friend in a bar, as he glossed over Mike Florio’s soapbox rant at Pro Football Talk. And I said to myself, “Probably just another case of this guy stirring the pot and throwing gasoline.” Then I pulled up the video and thought, “Hoo boy, Aaron. That ain’t good, dude.”

That very well could be perceived as an act of dickery, and it doesn’t help his cause that Clay Matthews immediately greeted Cavanaugh next and signed her pink jersey…
Now here’s the thing about all this evidence – we don’t have the first clue what was going on. It’s a :16 clip that has already been pulled from the TV station’s website. Some people speculated that the team knew Cavanaugh would be there, which doesn’t seem correct, because then every player would have stopped to greet her. And it’s not like Rodgers is the devil incarnate. In fact, he’s pretty much the exact opposite.

Additionally, it could be that this lady is there EVERY SINGLE AWAY GAME and that Rodgers stopped and talked to her and signed shit for her LAST WEEK, when there weren’t cameras around. Not only could it be that way, it is.

Autographs are over-rated. To be fair, he had his Ipod on and looked like was wasn’t really paying attention where he was going and the woman in the pink shirt wasn’t very aggressive approaching him. She was just standing there in the clip.

WBAY has now reposted the ENTIRE story. Check in yourself and pay attention to the old guy with the signed Packers helmet. His name is Cody Cavanaugh, the husband of the woman in question. His quote is “Last Saturday we were up here and I got 20-plus signatures” as he shows off the helmet. THAT is when HIS WIFE got Rodgers to sign her stuff. Rodgers did not “diss” anyone. Like ken said, the woman had been there the week before after the Eagles game, and Rodgers had already signed her helmet.
Now, I do think no matter what, he should’ve stopped.
But he’s not a douchebag for not doing the exact same thing he did the week before…
Rogers is fun to watch sling it around the yard. Doesn’t make him a good guy or bad guy. A lot of pro athletes are dicks. This is nothing new.

Maybe Rodgers just felt she was already getting enough special treatment.

Jan Cavanaugh isn’t upset about it. After all, Rodgers has given her a number of autographs as recently as last weekend. She *is* upset at all of the tools out there (like yourself) making an issue out of this non-issue.
