For those of you (excuse me, those of us) that don’t regularly follow mixed arts, the promotion known as World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) was bought out by the mighty UFC. The last show for WEC was last night, and Anthony Pettis ensured that the promotion went out with a bang with this jump-kick off the cage to Ben Henderson’s face.
Everyone is comparing this to The Matrix, and that’s fine, but really it reminds me more of an Alaskan rat kick game I once saw where dude had to jump off of one foot, kick a rat hanging about 6 feet in the air, and then land on that same foot. It was pretty boss for something that involved a fake rat.
WEC was a league comprised exclusively of middleweights lightweights, so those guys shouldn’t have too difficult a time finding a home in UFC, especially Pettis, who made his last night at his old job count with the closest thing to a WWE-style finishing move that I’ve ever seen in MMA. UFC boss Dana White has said that Pettis will be first in line to fight for that outfit’s lightweight title. Works for me.

Pffft, HBK would Sweet Chin Music this fag’s head off.
The WEC hasn’t had a middleweight division since 2008..they’ve been strictly lightweight and under since 2009, when the UFC absorbed their welterweight division.
Punte, WEC was always owned by the UFC I think, it’s just that they are folding it up and bringing them into the main UFC umbrella. Guys wouldn’t fight at smaller weights because of the smaller purse and perception of being in an inferior league.
Did you do any research before writing this? WEC wasn’t bought out by the UFC, both organizations were owned by Zuffa. The WEC is being folded into the UFC. This allows the UFC to add a featherweight and bantamweight division. The lightweight champion (Pettis) will fight the UFC lightweight champ to unify the belts. There are no middleweights in the WEC.
Actually, the WEC WAS bought out by the UFC, but this was in 2006. The higher weight classes were folded shortly after and fighters like Brian Stann and Carlos Condit were absorbed into the UFC. This year, they decided to merge the lower weight classes as well and fold the WEC.
So, despite being a snarky bitch about facts, Heh, you were still technically wrong.
This is the same dude that was followed for a week by the show World of Jenks on MTV…Good stuff.
WEC, you little pussy. No fucking shit that the WEC was bought 4 fucking years ago. Look up the definition of context. Yes, maybe I should have written a history of MMA for the faggots that read this site, but the way the post was written led the reader to believe the UFC had just bought out the WEC and the WEC was shutting its doors as a result. The fact of the matter is, the WEC operated independently for years, and wasn’t folded into the UFC as an immediate result of being bought out, but as a business decision made by the parent company.
I smell Axe and low test scores… There must be an MMA fight on!
