The NFL made a stunning series of decisions regarding this Andre Johnson fight from yesterday. Both players reportedly will be punished equally, which is a surprise when one considers the reputation of the instigator–Tennessee cornerback Cortland Finnegan–and his overtly crass demonstration after his ejection from that game. But also, neither player will be suspended.
@Mortreport is reporting Andre Johnson and Cortland Finnegan each have been fined $25,000. Neither player will be suspended.
That seems insanely low to me, and I openly question the logic of Merton Hanks and the guys making these decisions on the 17th floor at 280 Park. If you don’t want to suspend either guy during a division title run (especially with the Colts struggling in the AFC South), that’s fine. But how can you fine two different guys half of what you fined James Harrison, who was actually playing the game? Forget about the fight for a second; I don’t see how Finnegan’s antics after getting tossed didn’t warrant something extra from the 17th floor. Was that any better for the game than a defender trying to do his job? Considering Finnegan’s reputation, that might have been exactly what we were seeing.

Enough with the little whiny jabs everywhere about the illegal tackles. You can’t hit guys by driving into them helmet-first. It’s a rule and it’s stupid anyway.
And if you had a coach who taught that to tackle is to ram into someone with your head and/or should rather than to wrap them up with your arms, then your coach was an idiot. A defender’s job is to bring the ball-carrier down, not bounce off of him as hard as possible.
And Finnegan should have gotten an extra $10,000 fine for being a dick all the time. $15K more for his post-tossing antics. And $100K for talking shit, starting a fight and then cowering when the guy actually started swinging.
This is probably the first and most Andre Johnson has had to pay to get a piece of p***y
The ghost of Claude Lemieux applauds Cortland Finnegan.
so, what you’re saying, is it’s cheaper to rip someone’s helmet off and throw it across the field, punch someone in the face after the play, or illegally video tape another teams practice than it is to tackle someone very hard…
Roger, you got some splaining to dooooo…
It’s cheaper for James Harrison to just suckerpunch a QB.
