After dispensing of perennial Big Ten football power Indiana, Ohio State found itself on top of both the AP and coaches’ poll rankings. It’s the first time the Buckeyes were ranked No. 1 since the end of the 2007 season, right before they were torched by LSU.
It’s worth noting that as many as seven FBS teams could finish the regular season undefeated, which would be awesome for those of us rooting for BCS chaos. Never mind Oregon, whose resume’ is highlighted with its win over Standford two weeks ago, but Boise State, TCU, Utah, and even Michigan State still could run the table against its predetermined slate of conference nerd programs and hapless also-rans.
People in college football keep clamoring for a playoff. I’d rather see more parity in regular-season scheduling, where some of these “power conferences” schedule games against better-matched teams in other leagues. Why the hell is Ohio State playing Indiana when they could be playing, say, Oklahoma? It would be like the ACC-Big Ten Challenge in basketball, only far less likely to happen.
Enjoy finishing second in the country again, Columbus. I can’t wait for my mother-in-law to send me another “National Championship Game” tee shirt.

Its not Boise States fault the WAC is weak. Nevada is ranked 19th however and the last 19th ranked team I saw play beat a #1 Alabama.
Teams are afraid of BSU, proven by the fact that BSU moves to the Mountain West to play a bigger opponents and they all leave.
OSU has been scheduling those ‘power’ conference games for several years now. It started with Home/Aways with Texas, then USC, this year and next with Miami, Cal in 2011.
A couple of things:
First off, this might be the first time that IU has ever been referred to “perennial Big Ten football power Indiana”. Yes, I know it’s sarcasm, but I’ll take it anyway.
Second of all, this was an IU team that Michigan just barely squeaked by the week before, which OSU thoroughly throttled.
Third of all, IU is in the Big Ten. OSU had to play them. Some years they’ll get Michigan, Penn State, and Nebraska. Some years they’ll get Indiana, Northwestern, and Illinois. That’s how conference play works.
That being said, if you’re in the top 25, and you don’t beat IU by at least two touchdowns, I think you should be barred from being ranked.
Its amusing people even care about this shit. Look, college football is just a vehicle to get girls drunk enough to show their boobies later that night and give you a chance to dry hump them. Who gives a shit who the champion is?
I loathe Ohio State but honestly, the writer of the article should not have the privilege of posting sports commentary in public again. REGARDLESS of the talent on Indiana’s football team, a casual football fan would know that Indiana is in the Big 10 and with the assertion that that they should be playing Oklahoma instead is asinine. With Leather, I will never take you seriously with writers like this contributing to your website – horrible.
PLAYOFFS. Yes, I’m talking ’bout playoffs Coach Mora.
Actually, Ohio State WILL play Oklahoma…in 2016 and 2017.
sofa king we Todd it. The conference sets the schedule years in advance, the school sets the schedule for non-conference years in advance. The idea that OSU could just swap Indiana for Oklahoma is beyond stupid for a sports blog.
Point is moot – BADGERS win this Saturday and Ohio State can go back to the “shady” program that it is… How in the world has Ohio State never been caught ?
And here I thought I lit this torch and sharpened my pitchfork for no reason.
To the poster RUSS – dude, you just used “Cal” and “Power Conference” in the same sentence. OSU shill much? Oh and how did those home and homes work out? You won 1. And Miami looks real good right now, huh. *sarcasm*. But hey, you beat Eastern Michigan pretty well.
