Jim Rome has made a career out of pissing off athletes, so it should come as no surprise that he helped himself to a large glass of haterade when discussing the career of Shaquille O’Neal. Rome said that the Shaqtus wasn’t as dedicated to the game as Kobe, and encouraged the Celtics not to sign the man behind Kazaam. Shaq certainly seemed to feel that those were fightin’ words, and needed to vent his frustrations to three million people via the internet. Suffice to say, we’ve got a good ol’ fashioned Twitter war on our hands.
When TV host Jim Rome criticized O’Neal’s career, said he wasn’t as dedicated as Kobe and warned the Celtics not to sign him, O’Neal picked the biggest club he had to retaliate — Twitter.

His show is terrible, his speech rhythm makes me want to rip out his vocal cords, and he’s always hating on somebody for something. Yeah the Jim Everett bit… while it makes great tv, was just a really douchey thing for an interviewer to do. I’m surprised anyone takes him seriously anymore.
The sad thing is he has good points occasionally, but he dilutes them with a sea of crap.

I live in L.A. I listen to Rome occasionally and I am certainly a from-birth Laker Fan. I was a big Shaq fan for years, even siding with him over Kobe in that ridiculous tussle from a few years ago. Since leaving the Lakers, Shaq has turned from Superman to The Big Buffoon in only a few short years. This is just one more example. Do you really believe that Shaqwould be picking a fight with a Smack Talker if he were the size and strength of Andre the Giant in his prime?? I think not! Shaq has become a bully and this proves that Rome’s comments may even be valid. Sorry Big Fella. You had a nice run, but you were never the player you could have been.

Of course that proposal requires Shaq to be capable of two things: (1) logical, rational thought processes; and (2) playing basketball at the NBA level. It’s easy to see were Rome can come off as a epic d-bag. However, I’m siding with him here. Everything he said about Shaq is dead on. Given his size, athleticism and (most importantly) consistent health (so rare for a big man in b-ball) there should have been no bball milestone he didn’t dominate. Instead he only put in enough to be pretty good. Fuck Shaq.
