So the leader of our free world participated in a pickup game featuring current and former NBA stars, and you can just stop reading here and finish out the “He’s just a regular guy!” or “He should be fixing the economy!” anecdote in your heads. Or
The game was played for a group of “wounded warriors” — troops injured in action — and participants in the White House’s mentoring program. It took place at a gym inside Washington’s Fort McNair, a short drive from the White House. The president was inside the gym for about two hours.
The reporters assigned to keep tabs on the president were shut out of the gym, forced to wait in vans outside. Asked why media coverage was blocked, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Obama “just wanted to play.”
After the game some of the players joined Obama and a group of his friends for a barbecue at the White House, capping the president’s 49th birthday week. –from the monolith.
The first time I was critical of Obama making such public use of his free time, I was thoroughly destroyed in the comments. But I’m sure it felt great to come back from Iraq and watching my commander-in-chief running up and down the floor while I sat in a wheelchair would have done much to cheer me up. But that’s not the fight I want to pick here.
I want to know who the f–k put “wounded warriors” IN QUOTES! That is not a figurative expression. Those returning soldiers (a) served their country AT WAR, and (b) suffered significant injury. You might even say that THEY WERE WOUNDED. I will stab whoever wrote this in the eye, and then gloat endlessly about how I “wounded” that person.
Where are my pills? And would it be “whoever” or “whomever?” Whatever. Sometimes I really hate Americans.
ASYLUM POLL: Is Obama taking it a bit too easy this August?

It’s whomever. Happy stabbing.
When I used to work at the ICU I always put “rape victim” on their clipboards.
No wait, you’re right.
him + he = whoever
him + him = whomever
Unhappy stabbing?
It’s in quotations because that’s the title that certain charity groups have given to soldiers wounded in action. The only bone to pick is really why it wasn’t capitalized because it’s the name of an organiztion.
And do you think Obama is making fun of LeBrons fake elbow injury in that pic?
Wow, glad I missed that last PoFlaWa. It’s nice to see Obama taking a break from his golf game.
Alex, if it’s a title, I’d think that it would have been in Title Case, no?
I see…like hes a “President”. Based on what hes done, its figurative at this point.
/sure this will start shit, just dont care.
I dunno Josh, I was using what little I remember from English class in Junior High to make that argument.
What’s this about Iraq?
That poor soldier on the left! My God his face got mangled by an IED!
Alex – why would you use logic, reason, or even grammar to clarify something instead of rant in incendiary tones, and act with self righteous indignation? This is the fucking internet after all.
Were you in the “Military” ?
Left wing and right wing can all unite in our collective hatred of LeBortion.
Well, he took a bad economy and made it worse, I’d rather he worked on his J and chipping skills for the next 2 years….
Have fun with the stabby stabby!
Catpuncher, you were right the first time. It’s whomever. If you can answer him or them then it’s whom, and if you can answer he or they then it’s who. Josh is going to stab him so it is whomever.
Putting quotes around anything is usually funny. Like if you said “Tony Romo is “not gay”.” See, that’s comedy gold right there.
Well, he took a bad economy and made it worse
Right, because the stock market was 6600 when he took office and it’s 10600 now; we were shedding jobs at a rate of 800,000 a month when he took office, and he reversed that to positive gains; we were heading into Great Depression 2.0 and we avoided that thanks to a stimulus package that even the conservative American Enterprise Institute credits with turning things around.
But Glenn Beck says it’s worse now so durr hurr hurr.
My grand daddy always warned me about those shift-less hawaiians.
My un-funny comment saved or created 1546 jobs.
“But Glenn Beck says it’s worse now so durr hurr hurr.”
Why do you dipshits always use Beck as the supposed champion of anyone who thinks Obama is flushing the country down the drain? Or is it just Beck/Limbaugh/pick your Fox celebrity followers and racists that have an opposing viewpoint?
It’s rhetorical, dumbass. No need to answer.
Why do you dipshits always use Beck as the supposed champion of anyone who thinks Obama is flushing the country down the drain?
Because Beck best sums up the fact-free, pants-pissing attitude that people like you have. But hey, if there’s some other right-wing moron that you mouthbreathers are getting your misinformation from, please, let me know and I’ll start badmouthing him too.
The economy isn’t great, but by no single metric is it “worse” now under Obama. Dow Jones is up, GDP is up, monthly employment is up, deficit projections are better, and on and on.
I know, I know. Facts have a liberal bias.
It’s rhetorical, dumbass.
Actually, dumbass, it isn’t rhetorical.
Congratulations on failing English and economics. Mom and Dad must be proud.
Yeah, I miss the good ole days of George W. Failure, who used to TAKE THE ENTIRE MONTH OF AUGUST OFF EVERY YEAR TO RIDE BIKES AND ‘CLEAR BRUSH’ ON HIS FAKE RANCH.
“It’s rhetorical, dumbass. No need to answer.”
You know where they tell you what you can and can’t do? Russia.
Otto Man; the dumbest fucking clown on this site.
Enjoy it while you can hippy, the Dems are out on their ass in November, and that fuck stick Barry Obama will be looking for a job in 2012.
Yeah, dumbest clown on the site, because actually using true, verifiable facts in an argument is just fucking dumb, while making shit up is smart smart smart.
Also: Punter, who are we at war with? I mean, Congress declared war on someone and I missed it? Which doesn’t, of course, negate that it’s fucking horrible that people in our military are dying and getting crippled.
Whatever. Sometimes I really hate Americans.
Otto Man
January 20, 2009: Obama is Inaugurated: Market opens at 8280 (not 6600). Yes the market is up from then, but who didn’t check their facts?
Unemployment rate Jan 2009: 7.6%. Unemployment rate July 2010: 10.1%. That to me would appear to be a “single metric” by which the economy could be judged as “worse.” So much for the jobs saved by the stimulus.
As for the GDP there was a 200 billion dollar increase from 2008 to 2009. The stimulus is roughly 800 billion. Gee, I wonder what caused the increase. By the way the stimulus has helped quadruple the deficit.
You’re right, Otto Man, things are much better. Not only is the economy much better, we more rights, and none of the ones we have are in jeopardy of being restricted. Just think, all of this was done without any new taxes.
“Otto Man; the dumbest fucking clown on this site.”
Wow, man, you totally demolished all those facts and figures he cited when you called him a clown. Way to go, brah. Awesome argument.
January 20, 2009: Obama is Inaugurated: Market opens at 8280 (not 6600). Yes the market is up from then, but who didn’t check their facts?
Do you think the economy reacted to the fact that he was sworn in? The implosion that started under Bush in mid 2008 continued to slide past 8800 down to 6549 by mid February 2009 — right when the stimulus package was passed and you could credibly say the economy was feeling the effects of Obama’s policies — and then proceeded to gain 4000 points in the next year.
Likewise, the unemployment rate was 8.9% in February 2009 when Obama’s policies kicked in. And yes, the rate is still too high at 9.6%, but that’s because we shed the largest amount of jobs in the past eighty fucking years under Dubya’s watch and the economy is going to have to grow at rates we haven’t seen since WWII to fully recover.
But here’s what monthly job gains and losses looked like under the last bit of Bush (red) and the first bit of Obama (blue):
By the way the stimulus has helped quadruple the deficit.
Oh, please lecture me on the deficit after Republicans turned budget surpluses into budget deficits, paid for Iraq and Afghanistan with deficit spending, and passed the single largest entitlement program since the Great Society with no plans to pay for it.
Here on Planet Earth where we use math, the stimulus did not quadruple the deficit. Here’s how it breaks down:
Notice what’s the biggest factor there? It ain’t the stimulus. Hell, even diehard tax cutters like Alan Greenspan and David Stockman are arguing now that the best way to address the deficit is to let the Bush tax cuts expire. (And remember, the GOP was the party that said they should expire in 2010, because, once again, that was the only way they could hide the impact they’d have on the deficit when they passed them in 2001 through the budget reconciliation process.)
As for the articulate point about “we more rights” I’m not sure what rights you think have been taken away by Obama. Can you name them for us?
Stick to witty comments about sports and stay out of politics. You’ll only lose fans.
Running around and playing in front of a Wounded Warriors group!? Ever heard of a little thing called siuational awareness Barry? Maybe next he can host a sunset viewing for the blind.
“Just think, all of this was done without any new taxes.”
[/i][/b]Tax bills in 2009 at lowest level since 1950[/b]
By Dennis Cauchon, USA TODAY
Amid complaints about high taxes and calls for a smaller government, Americans paid their lowest level of taxes last year since Harry Truman’s presidency, a USA TODAY analysis of federal data found.
Some conservative political movements such as the “Tea Party” have criticized federal spending as being out of control. While spending is up, taxes have fallen to exceptionally low levels.
Federal, state and local income taxes consumed 9.2% of all personal income in 2009, the lowest rate since 1950, the Bureau of Economic Analysis reports. That rate is far below the historic average of 12% for the last half-century. The overall tax burden hit bottom in December at 8.8.% of income before rising slightly in the first three months of 2010.[/i]
We have the lowest taxes since Truman was president and still the teatards are out there claiming we are being taxed to death. And at the same time, theyre complaining that the deficit is too high. But we cant raise taxes to fix the deficit. Oh no.
Otto, you are correct. My typo destroys my whole argument. I forgot the “have.” On the same note, your minor punctuation errors devalue your point.
I was not aware that Obama took office in Feb. Thank you for clearing that up. Pardon me for taking you literally. Still your unemployment data differs from what I found at the Dept of Labor.
The deficit is one of those wonderful numbers that can be tweaked to support either side. Any way you look at it, nearly every administration has been out of control. For a president that vowed to balance the budget, Obama is taking us in the opposite direction at an uncanny rate.
As for the rights, none as president. He has voted many times as a state senator and US senator. No, I am not talking about just the 2nd amendment.
The whole point of the first post was to show that there is a valid counterpoint for what you were saying. Even though it wasn’t as well thought and proofread as well as could have been, you have to admit it was better than resorting to being a racist idiot and name calling. If we had the answers we wouldn’t be here on a panda sex blog.
Anyway, have a wonderful evening.
Government!
I am an English Teacher. If it were the name of a group, it would be in capitals and no quotes- Wounded Warriors. By putting it in quotes, you are absolutely right to want to stab people in the eyes. As it is written, the use of quotes signifies that they are not real wounded warriors, but like wounded warriors. The use of quotes can also dictate sarcasm, which I am sure was not their intention.
I was not aware that Obama took office in Feb. Thank you for clearing that up.
One more time, slowly — if you want to talk about the effect that an administration’s policies have on the economy, you have to wait until they’ve actually done something.
My unemployment data comes from the BLS data, without the seasonal adjustment. Go with the other data, seasonally adjusted, and it’s a starting point of 8.2 and an ending point of 9.5 — but since one was February and the other August, that’s a little skewed a picture. Shift into May 2009, and you see UR-SA is 9.4. It crept up to 10.0 by the fall (what you’d expect with a lagging indicator) and now we’re back to 9.5.
Any way you look at it, nearly every administration has been out of control.
Every administration since Nixon has had deficit spending, yes. But they haven’t all been the same. Reagan piled up more deficit that all the administrations before him combined and his acolyte Bush did more of the same.
For a president that vowed to balance the budget, Obama is taking us in the opposite direction at an uncanny rate.
What are you talking about? Obama never “vowed to balance the budget.” As far back as the Democratic primaries, even before the full on collapse of the economy in mid 2008, he was pointing out that we’d need to engage in Keynesian spending to dig our way out of the Bush recession. (Again, links get stuck in moderation, so look for “Balanced budget must wait: Obama” [Dec. 13, 2007 Chicago Sun Times])
As for the rights, none as president. He has voted many times as a state senator and US senator.
I’m seriously not trying to be an asshole here, but I still don’t know what you’re talking about.
The whole point of the first post was to show that there is a valid counterpoint for what you were saying.
There may be a valid counterpoint, but I haven’t seen it made. You’re entitled to your own opinions, but you’re not entitled to your own facts.
David Leonhardt had a nice wrap-up of independent economic observers’ assessment of the stimulus — google “Leonhardt stimulus” and you’ll get it — and the nut graf is this:
“Just look at the outside evaluations of the stimulus. Perhaps the best-known economic research firms are IHS Global Insight, Macroeconomic Advisers and Moody’s Economy.com. They all estimate that the bill has added 1.6 million to 1.8 million jobs so far and that its ultimate impact will be roughly 2.5 million jobs. The Congressional Budget Office, an independent agency, considers these estimates to be conservative.”
Sorry, but I’m going to listen to professionals on this.
Even though it wasn’t as well thought and proofread as well as could have been, you have to admit it was better than resorting to being a racist idiot and name calling.
The only person who brought up race here was Yukon Cornelius. I haven’t mentioned it. At all.
As for name calling, what do I know? I’m just the dumbest fucking clown on this site.
Sorry, re-read your last comment and realized I missed the point.
Yes, much better than being a racist idiot and name calling.
Sorry, but you wound up getting some of the rage built up by other folks here and that wasn’t fair. It’s been a long day and my fuse is shorter than it usually is.
The Wounded Warrior Project does some amazing things. I think it’s pretty awesome that the president chose to use his free time to hang out with wounded soldiers.
However the fact that he brought Joakim Noah negates any positives.
So it’s OK to say racist things about him again?
ps- “The pace of economic recovery is likely to be more modest in the near term than had been anticipated,” the Federal Open Market Committee said in a statement in Washington.
Released two minutes ago.
That means that this great economy that Obosa has, all by himself!, fostered, this little kindling fire that he’s trying to build back into a bonfire, is dying.
“As for name calling, what do I know? I’m just the dumbest fucking clown on this site.”
The only true thing you’ve written here.
“Because Beck best sums up the fact-free, pants-pissing attitude that people like you have. But hey, if there’s some other right-wing moron that you mouthbreathers are getting your misinformation from, please, let me know and I’ll start badmouthing him too.”
That’s right, because anyone with a dissenting opinion must get his/her info from a “right-wing moron”… which is hilarious given you take up company with retards like Olbermann and the handsome Rachel Maddow.
And yes, IT WAS rhetorical given I knew you’d respond like you did. Thanks for confirming the idiocy.
The best part about this whole thing is:
Otto Man clearly being an “unemployed” “person” “who can waste multiple hours per day meticulously correcting and confronting people in a way that will allow him to stay seated in his W.O.W. chair and feel good about being a basement liberal”
its all comedy, lighten up
