College freshman orientation is filled with plenty of embarrassing scenarios for kids embarking on their new journeys into academic adulthood. Hell, if you’ve ever stepped foot in the parents room of an orientation session then you’ve seen enough for a lifetime. For instance, my freshman orientation at the terrible football school I attended featured a session during which we pretended to mingle in a social atmosphere while our “O-Teamers” walked around and put Tic Tacs in our sodas to represent drugging. I still thank them for that valuable lesson.
Over at the University of Georgia, they’re putting on quite the show. Set to the tune of Miley Cyrus’ smash hit “Party in the USA,” the orientation team welcomes incoming Bulldawgs with “Party in the U-G-A” and it’s everything you could have imagined and more. I’ve only really been able to comprehend two things about this video:
1) The dude at 1:11 is way too excited about Georgia orientation.
B) The girl at 1:25 is missing an article of clothing.
Apparently it’s Georgia Tech’s move to respond, although I’m not sure they really need to say anything at all.

My orientation was two poor black kid’s from the projects in Chicago talking about diversity. It was hilarious.
Good Lord, the stupid icebreaker games are bad enough. This is just.. I don’t even know. They’d better hand out wet naps or something after showing this so the freshman can wash the gay off

This is awful…and I am alum. Despite a decent journalism school, there’s never been a good video produced anywhere near this campus. Just watch any commercial broadcast during an ESPN sporting event for reference. Oh well, at least it’s the number one party school…no thanks to the kids in this video.

Wow, it only took them 4 minutes, 30 seconds to make a whole freshman class regret their decision to go to the University of Georgia. Well done.

Never mind the 21 rhodes scholarship recipients, the 4 Gates cambridge scholarship winners, or the countless other academic awards earned by UGA students, UGA’s status as a sea grant college, a public service program ranking at the very top of all American educational institutes, students enrolled with an average GPA of 3.8 out of 4.0, that in 2007-2008, UGA was the only public university in the country with winners of Rhodes, Truman, Goldwater and Udall scholarships, that the Redcoat Marching Band received the Sudler Trophy in 2000 (the first in the southeastern conference to do so), or that Abraham Baldwin and William Few, early leaders of the University of Georgia, also signed the Constitution of the United States of America. People are quick to point out all the negative things about a place, but seem to forget (or ignorantly overlook) the many more positive things. Even if we are the number one party school in the nation (or so says the Princeton Review) it obviously doesn’t have an effect on the standard of excellence that we live by every day here at the University of Georgia. “Once a DAWG always a DAWG!!!”
And my the way, in the context of this years orientation (which none of you attended), this video was completely appropriate.
There is absolutely no context that would make that abortion “completely appropriate”
