The NHL’s two biggest stars, Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin, are also the league’s two biggest rivals. Their hatred has boiled over to the rest of their teammates on overrated teams that choked against the Canadians the Pens and Caps. And much like an enforcer who steps in to fight for his star, Pittsburgh forward Max Talbot recently spoke trash about Ovechkin to keep his star out of the headlines.
Pittsburgh Penguins forward Max Talbot began a war of words with Washington Capitals superstar Alexander Ovechkin on Tuesday while Talbot was promoting the upcoming 2011 NHL Winter Classic between the Pens and Caps at Heinz Field on New Year’s Day.
“The first time I met him, actually, when I met him off the ice,” Talbot told The X. “You hear a lot of stories about a guy, but sometimes they’re not true. You hear of guys who are not good guys, and you’re like, ‘Yeah, okay, I’ll give the guy a shot.’ The first time I met him, let’s say he didn’t give the best impression to me, so better reason to hate him even more.”
“I was actually at the NHL Awards last summer with (Evgeni) Malkin, and we brought the Stanley Cup over there after the season,” Talbot told The X. “Malkin knew Ovechkin, and introduced me to him, and the first impression wasn’t great. I’m not really gonna say what happened, but I’m like, ‘Ok, this guy is a real (expletive deleted) (the ‘expletive’ is douche — ED).’ ” –TSN
So he met Ovechkin, thinking he was a douche, and decided to label him a douche after meeting him once? What’s not to like about Alex? Sure, he’s Russian, and by definition a Communist, but at least he’s not Canadian. Say what you will about the tenets of Communism, at least it’s an ethos, dude.

I would compare the relationship between Max Talbot and Sidney Crosby to that of a Boyfriend (Talbot) and Girlfriend (Crosby) rather than that of an enforcer protecting a star from the would-be bully (Ovechkin). Just look at the facts, Crosby & Talbot’s “plutonic” basement dryer shooting sessions, their side-by-side appearance at every presser event, including the most recent Winter Classic debut at Heinz field, etc…The evidence speaks for itself. Don’t be such a jealous girl, Talbot!
Ovi is only a douche because he refused to take Talbot’s shaft like Crosby does.

Ovechkin likes to play a physical game and that is ok but when he hits he jumps into his man and his skates leave the ice surface, this is borderline charging that can be called and should be. When you play a physical game against him he cries like the creep he is.

I just love all the “Crosby is gay and Talbot is his boyfriend” posts. The level of maturity is underwhelming. Little kids on a playground. That’s what you all sound like.
The fact is, Max did not comment on Ovechkin’s skills, only on his personality. I have never met Ovechkin so I can’t comment on his being a douche or not (did TSN really make that an expletive deleted?). But I DO know Max and he is an excellent judge of character so, based on what he said as well as the MANY things I have read and heard about Ovechkin as well as what I DON’T read or hear about him (visiting kids in hospitals, visiting fans, running multiple charity fundraisers in the offseason as well as attending others) gives me all of the information I need to form an opinion. He’s a douche. On the ice, he’s exciting and skilled as well as rough, tough and needlessly vicious. But off it? The only person Ovie cares about is Ovie which might cut it in other sports but, in hockey, players are expected to be part of a TEAM. That team includes the actual employees of the organization and the fans and community in which they play. Max has always, from day one, shown he is a team player who really cares about not just the game, but the people around it. Max is admittedly NOT even in the same universe as Ovechkin as far as on ice skills but he has more heart and work ethic than Ovie and off the ice, Ovie isn’t good enough to carry Max’s sweaty jockstrap.
Oh, and Ovie has never scored the Stanley Cup winning goal either….
Oh and Ryan….the Pens did NOT choke….they DID run up against a very motivated Montreal team and a goalie on a hot streak (an d yes, I love Les Habitants). Now tell me, what the HELL were they thinking in Montreal letting Halak go?
