SO CLOSE
03.18.10Robert Morris was this close to ruining your bracket Thursday afternoon, but come to think of it, he would have ruined everyone’s bracket, so the net effect would probably be around zero. Anyway, here’s a quick recap of everything you missed while you were stuck in that meeting that your boss decided to have this afternoon.
- Villanova 73, Robert Morris 70 (OT). Robert Morris could have
oneJuanwon this game if someone had bothered to set a screen for Karon Abraham’s three at the end of OT, but no. Villanova, whom many had in their respective Final Fours, escapes from a game that saw them shoot only 35 percent from the field. The refs helped. Sorry, but it’s true. - Old Dominion 51, Notre Dame 50. Any time Notre Dame loses, a Catholic priest gets an anal tumor; I think I read that someplace. Carleton Scott missed what would have been a game-tying three pointer as time ran out. I don’t expect him to forget about that shot anytime soon. I don’t know why I thought ODU was the 6 seed here, but they played like they should have been.
- BYU 99, Florida 92 (2OT). Jimmer Fredette scored 37 points, which is still somewhat impressive even in a double-overtime game.
This is the first year that I stopped pretending that I knew anything about college basketball and just advanced the higher seed in every game. I picked Kentucky to win and my tie-breaker was 61-61. Apparently, a tiebreaker can actually be a tie score, which sounds like the right amount of irony for a college basketball bracket that forbids its participants from gambling.

So close, yet so far.
Punte, not 100% chalk. #11 ODU beat #6 ND.
OD beating ND is not “going chalk”…..OD was the lower seed. That’s called an upset.
Fortunately, my boss scheduled a 2-hour meeting at the bar.
Robert Morris could have one this game
Carleton Scott missed what would have been a game-tying three pointer… in a one point loss?
Punte, you know St Patrick’s Day is supposed to be just one day, right?
@ Stinky – he was right about Scott. It was 51-48, Scott missed the 3, ND got the rebound and meaningless putback as time expired to make it 51-50.
