A fun story (fun for us, anyway) has finally made its way out of the NFL combine, one involving Tim Tebow and the Wonderlic, that timed test that all NFL prospects are asked to take at the combine. Tebow took the test, as everyone else did, with a small group of other prospects that didn’t really know each other.
Per a league source, after the person administering the test to Tebow’s group had finished, Tebow made a request that the players bow their heads in prayer before taking the 50-question exam.
Said one of the other players in response: “Shut the f–k up.” Others players in the room then laughed. –PFT.
Come on, guys. Tebow was just trying to make sure that you got into heaven! That leadership! Of course, his leadership was trumped by the STFU guy, who basically won over the room with a single phrase. Just wait until the 2012 season, where Goodell will give Tebow a distinct advantage by mandating that all game balls be constructed from Filipino foreskin. In the Philippines, boys from ages 8 to 13 (before pubic hair starts to grow and supposedly the foreskin is more pliable) get circumcised. In groups, boys go to an herbalist. Here’s how it is done (for those who are squeamish, please don’t read the next paragraph):
Without anesthesia, the herbalist pulls the foreskin and cuts it lengthwise with a kitchen knife or a razor. The boy is required to chew quava leaves and spit on it. The foreskin is wrap around (it is not totally cut) and a clean piece of cloth is used as a bandage. The boy is told to jump into the nearby river to wash up. The biggest No No is chewing the guava leaves and not able to spit out anything because the mouth is parched dry.

I don’t think the STFU comment had anything to do with Tim Tebow’s religious beliefs, I think it’s more of Tim Tebow rubbing people the wrong way. The fact that Tim Tebow gets so much pre-draft publicity as a good but not great NFL prospect probably does not sit well with a lot of current NFL players and prospects. Several NFL players have already made comments about Tebow not having the skills to be a successful NFL QB. Also, Tebow never did anything that was “hard” or took “guts”. He was an oversized college athlete playing on one of the five best teams in the NCAA against 18-21 year-olds. If there is a humanitarian effort led by your church that you want to participate in, by all means do so.
But as much as the American Taliban would like to think that this country only has one religion and one way of practicing said religion, that is not the case. The framers of our Constitution were pretty clear that free people have a number of freedoms including freedom of religion. Either the practicing or non-practicing of it. So when someone tells Tebow who is jonesing for a prayer sesison to STFU….that is well within their rights. He can say whatever he wants (it’s a free country again) but that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t expect a retort by people who hold differing views. How would Tebow or scores of other people react if someone wanted to take that moment to lead some Muslim prayer? Would Tebow bow his head and say, “Praise Allah?” Think not. It’s perfectly fine to hold deeply religious views. Just don’t think you can or should impose those on a room full of folks you don’t know. So…to recap…I believe in God….but I still say STFU Tebow. Okay. I’ve sat here and read post after post and have determined two things for sure:
1. The non-religious people are too aggressive. Just say you disagree with Tebow putting his beliefs out there in the public eye and been done. You don’t have to like it, but he does have that right.
2. The religious people need to accept that some people are not going to agree with his stance and public displays. Those people also have a right to voice an opinion on the subject. Also, several people have already banished some of the posters here to hell. That, from my understanding, isn’t your responsibility.
As far as religion goes, I guess I would be an UFA. Non-affiliated and not interested. If I end up in hell, that’s my problem, not yours. Mind your own business.
