Washington Capitals superstar Alexander Ovechkin, AKA The Only Reason To Give The NHL Time Of Day, was suspended two games for this obviously-illegal-but-not-really-that-illegal hit against Chicago’s Billy Campbell. Brian Campbell. Whatever the hell his name is. Anyway, responses to Ovi being seated for the next two games has brought out a variety of reactions. But seriously, Campbell appears to be halfway down to the ice when he got hit. Probably because of menstrual cramping.
I’m torn; I don’t like seeing people get hit in the back that close to the boards, but the hit doesn’t look that bad. The biggest problem I have with the NHL is that they don’t seem to enforce the rules consistently, and one has to wonder whether a third-line guy with fewer eyeballs on him would have received such harsh retribution. Either way, Brian Campbell sucks. Video of the hit is after the jump.

Ovi was not suspended for the hit. He was suspended for being a gargoyle.
I don’t know, I’m about Ovechkin’s size. I could board you and see how you feel with a broken collarbone and some cracked ribs.
The only reason Campbell started falling is because he got shoved in the back.
Fuck Ovechkin.
A third line guy like got 4 games for such a hit (Maxime Lapierre) not even two weeks ago. The only reason he didn’t get more games is that he’s playing against Crosby in exactly 4 games…
Anyone else would have gotten 4+ games, he got 2 cuz he’s Ovechkin
^Agreed.
Well ,a check from behind is in fact illegal. Ovechkin is a self serving goon of the highest order. A third liner did in fact get suspended for a hit that’s exactly the same as this a little over a week ago (Lappierre), and he got more games.
Are you guys serious or do you just not know hockey? Hockey is a game of contact and illegal hits, everyone throws elbows everyone “boards” or “hits from behind”. It’s a contact game, the kinda of “hit from behind” that should called is one where the player has NO idea that the offender is coming. Re-watch the video Campbell turns his head and sees Ovie coming, reason a why he didnt hold on to the puck and set up behind the net. When campbell “reversed” the play Ovie was past the P.O.N.R. (point of no return). However Campbell had time to peel off of the hit which you are trained to do in Jr. hockey. Reason why this “looked so bad” Campbell was a good 6 feet away from the boards (which is another reason why he was stupid and didnt peel away from the hit due to being on the boards you can obsorb the hit) so he wsa 6 feet away from the boards, Ovie was forechecking hard which is what a GOOD hockey player does and had momentum towards Campbell, Campbell had momentum towards the boards due to him not peeling off. Ovie weighs 40 more pounds then Brian Campbell and im sure a pee wee could have finished this “hit” (which isnt really a hit it was a push LMFAO) and probably have had the same affect as Ovie. Now lets take a look at what the league is really trying to do here, does Sidney Crosby have a Rocket Richard trophy? No, who leads the league in goals this year? Crosby with 45, who trails Crosby with 44? Ovie. Who is playing weak teams and could possibly score A LOT of goals in the next 2 games!? Ovechkin. So why not, on a weak weak weak hit that unfortunatly turned out bad for Brian Campbell suspend Ovie for 2 games against weak teams where he could run his goals up. Easy way for Crosby to get a decent size lead to Ovie right?! The league needs to focus more on the blows to the head! Hmmm, lets look at Matt Cooke’s hit on Boston’s BEST PLAYER Marc Savard. Dangerous hit which not only was blind side but could be considered a hit from behind. And now Boston who is a bubble team is missing their best player. But Matt Cooke isn’t suspended because he is on PITTSBURGH!! Good job Bettmen!
You forgot to mention that Brian’s season is now over because of broken ribs and a broken clavicle because of that hit. He is lucky it wasnt his neck.
If you cant suspend a guy for 2 games for ending a guy’s season on an illegal hit then when can you?
Brian: What is it with you Ovechkin fans? Everything is about Crosby with you whiners. Paranoid much? Ovechkin has been given match penalties three times this year. That is not a fluke. Pull your head out of your ass.
^ Oops” Ryan rather. It doesn’t matter what your name is.
That homo took a dive. He saw Ovie coming.
Oh, and Crosby smokes pole. CANADIAN POLE.
Yes, a season ending dive is always a smart play.
Who is the lard ass that writes on this site? Ovechkin is far from the only reason to watch hockey. But then again, you’re a big MMA fan, so there ya go. MMA-the new Nascar-aka the Hillbilly National Pastime. Campbell is a three time all star, fyi.
Ryan you’re just proving you don’t know that much about hockey the suspension isn’t so much just the hit from behind but where the hit from behind occured… You talk about head injuries and i don’t know if you noticed but a hit from behind at that part of the ice is sending the players head straight to the boards, a potential career ending hit. Sure he knew Ovi was there but he’s expecting a hit by the boards. LOL i’m talking bout hockey
“the hit doesn’t look that bad.”
How much glue have you been sniffing? He hit Campbell right in the numbers. That’s as dirty as you can get. Also, TV doesn’t do it justice, but, do you have any idea how fast they’re going? The closer you were to the ice level, the more I’m sure you thought Campbell was dead.
It was a chicken shit cheap shot. If Ovechkin was Steve Downie, he’d be suspended for at least 5 games. Aside from it being a dirt hit, there was no need for it as Campbell had already got rid of the puck.
That hit cost Brian Campbell the season, and is a major blow for the Chicago Blackhawks chance for a cup.
And Bruce Boudreau can suck on a cock and die. After the game he said the hit was perfectly legal. Meanwhile, when Mike Green got hit the same way, but not as bad, Boudreau went nuts.
So, I just read Ryan’s comments, and I can’t help but think he read hockey for dummies and then commented on this site.
First of all, when you play Tyke (5-6 years old) hockey, you are told two things from the get go. A: Don’t pass the puck up the middle in your own zone and B: Never hit anyone from behind. That is why there is a stop sign on the back of all Minor hockey league jerseys.
Secondly, you learn to peel off a hit when you’re 12, when full contact is implemented, not Junior A. Hell, most learn earlier if they play in rep hockey.
Third, your point of no return isn’t valid because Ovechkin didn’t hit Campbell. He pushed him from behind. Major difference. Ovechkin has one of the best awareness in the league. He should know better than to push a guy from behind, especially given the area they were in.
Fourth, if you played hockey, you’d know that when hitting a guy from behind, weight advantage/disadvantage has nothing to do with the mechanics. If you’re talking about a hit Ovechkin did on Jagr during the Olympics, yes, weight plays a factor. But not in this instance when a player is that vulnerable.
Lastly, your theory on the Ovechkin suspension is just retarded. The Art Ross is what matters, not the Richard. The richard trophy has been around for like 10 years. And with Ovechkin suspended, it’s Sedin, not Crosby who will probably win that.
In conclusion, it’s a cheap hit that deserved to be suspended, and the players need to respect each other more.
Jmac says: “That hit cost Brian Campbell the season, and is a major blow for the Chicago Blackhawks chance for a cup.”
Are you fucking serious? It’s Brian Campbell. The guy has been a huge bust for the Hawks. On a team of 6 full time defenseman, Campbell is 5 out of 6. Had Ovechkin hit Keith the Hawks would have taken a major blow to their Cup chances.
As far as Ryan’s comments go, he’s a moron.
You all are faggots… go fuck yourselves. PS Ovechkin sucks dick for money
