Tecmo Bowl Throwback has been confirmed for North American release on next-generation console networks next spring. And yet nobody bothers to make a videogame for the CFL. Some features of the new game, available on Xbox LIVE Arcade and PlayStation Network:

I was never big on Tecmo Bowl in the mid-1990s. That’s probably because I sucked at it, unless I played as the Pittsburgh Steelers, and even then I was about average. The look of the old game was terrible; it looked like an Oompa-Loompa orgy on AstroTurf. Not that I have first-hand knowledge of those things. I just read the police reports like everybody else.

This is going to be one of those games thats fun for exactly 10 minutes before you switch back to Madden. That new Ultimate Team thing on Madden is pretty cool also. Between that and MLB SHOW ’10, I’m not leaving the house except to get weed.

I always get confused when people talk about Tecmo Bowl. To me, Tecmo Super Bowl was the defining game for Nintendo and was the one that introduced stats. I don’t know if people are just calling that game Tecmo Bowl or if they actually mean the original Tecmo Bowl that only had four plays and like 8 teams and was really terrible.
Cool, does that mean that we can call Brady Quinn “QB Browns”?

tecmo bowl got me through the chicken pox in midschool. greatest old school console football game ever. ever ever. ever ever. unfortunately we’re spoiled by madden now, so this might not be a big deal for a lot of gamers. who the fuk wants to play tecmo bowl on a ps3 or xbox 360, are microsoft and sony on crack? or huffin’ paint?. all you need is a directional pad and 2 buttons. call it a day.

EA’s exclusive NFL license doesn’t help matters, but I’m sure there will be at least 100 roster/league files within a week of the release date.
I agree with Enrico. Anyone who wants to slam the original tecmo bowl is the same person who frowns on masturbation. Sure, the real thing now is better, but we all had to start somewhere.
Tecmo Bowl was the greatest game ever…and then Super Tecmo Bowl came out and blew it away. Anyone who criticizes them in 2010 obviously didn’t play them when they came out. Seriously, what kind of fucking idiot compares a 1980s game to Madden ’10? Yeah, the graphics look funny today — they squeezed so much out of the NES for Super Tecmo that it was amazing. The gameplay was fabulous and having the real players who performed comparably to real life was mindblowing. There would be no Madden without Tecmo.
Check that release date, other sites have it as spring 2010.
All I’m trying to say is that I’ve TRIED to play old games. You name it, Street Fighter, All Star Baseball, MOrtal Kombat. The games will always remain dear to me, but with the new games out they just aren’t fucking fun anymore.

Finally the one game that no one could be me at comes to the new gen systems. With Joe tossing the pig skin to either Rice or Taylor running hail mary routes on opposite sides of the field I could not be beat. I hope they do keep it simple like the old one. Don’t change anything but the graphics. Now I can go on line and see if I am really as good as I thought.

everybody is claiming that due to the graphics and primitive style of play that this game will flop or only be fun for 10 minutes. let me say this; madden it way too complicated and it feels like you only control about 50% of what actually happens. with tecmo, it’s the simplicity that makes it great. two foes with the same skill level and it’s endless fun. does chess ever get boring?
