No Jail Time
03.26.10ESPN’s Jemele Hill is reporting that Gilbert Arenas of the Washington Wizards (for now, anyway) has been sentenced to 30 days in a halfway house and two years of probation. He reportedly will not do jail time.
Obviously, this is a fair punishment, since a star athlete would never receive preferential treatment in court. So now we’ll wait and see if Arenas’ $111 million contract would somehow be voided by the team. Legal proceedings are awesome. They’re like street fights, but longer and with more paperwork.

Fuck this. I’m bringing guns to work on Monday then. I could use the 30 day vacation.
And Plaxico got two years? I wonder if Lil Wayne and Plax hang out in Rikers?
This annoys me – not necessarily because of the lack of punishment, but because of the comparably harsher penalty Buress received. Buress ACCIDENTALLY discharged his firearm in public which injured nobody but himself. While Arenas carried his firearms to work with the intent to threaten and intimidate. The defense cited Arenas’ character. How good is his character when he already had a misdemeanor weapons charge in California in 2003?
Our legal system is total BS.
