Tiger Woods apologized–not like a Jason Giambi apology, but like a real apology–in Florida today, while both condemning his own transgressions (my word) and praising his wife Elin for her grace and poise (his words). He also said that he’ll be returning to the tour (though he didn’t set a date) and thanked his family and friends for their support. Tiger didn’t wear his wedding ring to his speech (though he typically didn’t wear one before the fact). In other words, nothing to see here.
I don’t know what it is about someone finally coming in front of a camera and spilling their guts that allows people to move past a certain event, but I expect that to happen now that Tiger, without answering questions, has answered questions. He appeared sincere, with tears welling up in his eyes as he began to speak. He appeared poised, and perhaps over-rehearsed, but one would expect that even with help from his handlers that Tiger had been preparing for this encounter since his self-imposed exile late last year.

Even for a golfer that was unforgivably boring. He must have enough fuck you money by now. He should have remade the Ludacris “Area Codes” video and sent that in. “I ain’t apologizin’ for shit.”
This guy’s an idiot. He should’ve just kept playing golf and not acknowledged this bullshit. All this did was prolong this nothing of a story. I love how he probably has five publicists and not one of them is capable of giving good advice.
That was painful to watch, a totally out of synch mess. I guess that was the best spin control his PR folks could come up with thus far, I can see why they were not going to allow him to take questions yet. They need to upgrade their leading man’s operating system from Windows 95, this unit’s emotion file seems to be corrupted. Some of the right words were there that will allow him to get back to living his life again, but when you are watching something that is as staged as this was its really hard to give it an ounce of credibility. Watch it again and look for the gestures and how he remembers to use them a couple of seconds after they would have been appropriate. The only sincerity I gathered from him was the bit about the media where could see that he has sincere rage against them for going off the script he had prepared for them.
What the fuck is he apologizing for? He should be apologizing to his wife and kids, in private, and no one else. I could care less about what a dick he is in his personal life, I just want to see him golf. I bet his extramarital sex numbers don’t even scratch the surface of what other athletes hit.
