THIS HAPPENED 20 YEARS AGO
02.11.10Yep, it was 20 years ago in Tokyo where Ohio’s own James “Buster” Douglas took down Mike Tyson. The upset happened after a poorly-trained Mike Tyson entered the ring to face a man who had just lost his mother three weeks earlier, and while Tyson managed to knock down Douglas in the eighth, it was Douglas who stopped the champ in the tenth. Most of us remember seeing Tyson’s mouthpiece pop out of his mouth as his body fell to the Japanese canvas. But hey, Tyson was in The Hangover, so it’s not like his career and life went into any sort of freefall after he lost the title. No, not at all.

Buster Douglas’s forehead makes Peyton Manning’s look normal.
Punch, clutch. Punch, clutch. Fake punch, clutch. Clutch clutch. Clutch clutch clutch. I don’t understand why boxing doesn’t have a larger following.
i remember this like it was yesterday. i was 8 and bumped my head at school. the school nurse gave me a rubber glove filled with water to take down the swelling. then she got fired for being a retard and went on to train mike tyson.
Good to see this again. I always remembered Douglas’ knockdown count being generously slower than Tyson’s but watching it with the youtube counter shows there’s nothing in it. I love how the arena’s atmosphere just sounds like two guys arguing in a bar.

Buster Douglas would laugh, but he has to run the fryer tonight at Popeye’s.
