OMG USA EKE OUT WIN VS SWISS, 2-0
02.24.10After beating Canada on Sunday night, the US men’s national team took the ice today to face Switzerland, who gave America all it could handle; it came to a handful of borderline calls, including this no-goal call at the end of the second period. But America advances to the medal round on the back of Zach Parise, whose two goals were the difference in their 2-0 quarterfinal victory.
The men will face the Czech Republic/Finland winner on Friday; they’ll get tomorrow off, and if they can win there, they’ll face (I’m guessing) either Canada or Russia for the gold. The American women will play tomorrow for the golf gold medal against Canada. So will America finally embrace hockey as a national sport and finally appreciate the athleticism and skill level of…hang on a second…I just saw somebody drop a quarter on the floor.
Merci, @cellblock303, for the screencap.

NBC hasn’t shown one minute of women’s golf during this Olympics.
Our women have got this thing wrapped up. Everyone knows Canada sucks at golf.
@Netsy – no, the Women’s winners split a 1980 VW Golf. It’s all according to pay scale.
So it probably wasn’t smart to come here first for my hockey news, but why was that a goal? The puck has to completely cross the line to count – this ain’t like football (or sex) where only the tip has to be in to count.
That was actually not counted as a goal
@Bobby – Right, my bad. I was wondering why Punte referred to it as a ‘borderline call’. It’s pretty obvious it’s a no-goal.
It would have been closer if the Swiss hadn’t spent the entire game in the neutral zone.
BADOOM CHING! Thanks, I’ll be here all week and don’t forget to tip your waitress.
USA vs Canada on Sunday for the gold, except this time Canada will actually make an effort to win. Thanks for comin’ out, USA.
I was wondering why Punte referred to it as a ‘borderline call’
Probably because the puck is floating right on the goddamned line, ‘Wad. Had it not been for this replay angle that you and the officials enjoyed, it almost certainly would have been a goal.
eke
In both sex and hockey you have to be balls deep for it to count. Everyone knows that.
In hockey they call the ball a “puck”. shit you not.
+1 GMSM
So its more of a borderline goal, but a good call to count it as a no goal then?
OVER-RATED (clap, clap, clapclapclap)
@ Captain – exactly, a borderline goal, but a black and white call.
