GEORGIAN LUGER DIES AFTER CRASH

This is Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili crashing after hitting Turn 16 on the Olympic luge course in Vancouver earlier today. His body flew off the track after hitting the wall of the course and collided with an unpadded steel beam. He died from his injuries.
And some of you will be wanting to see the video, which NBC and the IOC have been pulling down rather steadily; the best I could find that’s still up is after the jump. The Georgian team may withdraw from the games entirely, which seems a bit rash, even out of respect for the fallen friend. This makes me sad; I’ve had the privilege of meeting a few Georgians and they’re a kind, proud people, you know, unlike us.

I dunno, Iuger didn’t look to georgeous to me. I’ll show myself out.
I look forward to seeing this replayed set to Fogerty’s ‘Center Field.’

I used to work a lot in Georgia. I too think they are a kind, proud people. But usually….what’s the word….. oh yeah, Blacker……wait, what?

No way NBC loses money on the Olympics if people are dying during the games, that will surely draw twice the viewers.
