There’s an all-white basketball league looking to set up franchises in different cities. And while I could maybe kinda sorta see the idea, the commissioner and his “old-fashioned” generalizations more than ruined it for me.
Don “Moose” Lewis, the commissioner of the AABA, said the reasoning behind the league’s roster restrictions is not racism.
“There’s nothing hatred about what we’re doing,” he said. “I don’t hate anyone of color. But people of white, American-born citizens are in the minority now. Here’s a league for white players to play fundamental basketball, which they like. [FUNDAMENTAL BASKETBALL? THEY LIKE! DUNKING? THEY NO LIKE! --Ed.]”
Lewis said he wants to emphasize fundamental basketball instead of “street-ball” played by “people of color.” He pointed out recent incidents in the NBA, including Gilbert Arenas’ indefinite suspension after bringing guns into the Washington Wizards locker room, as examples of fans’ dissatisfaction with the way current professional sports are run. –Augusta Chronicle.
The unique thing about this Atlanta-based league is that both the home and visiting team will wear white. Hoods. Because anyone willing to be involved in this–players, fans, ownership et al.–will be absolutely destroyed by the media. And there goes your prime source of advertising. Augusta, for the record, turned the AABA down. And if the Deep South doesn’t want you, all that’s left is Europe and Texas.

Seriously though, the feeling that “basketball hasn’t been the same since they let blacks in” is so pervasive. Everyone from my hick ass uncle to an older guy I work with repeat the same line verbatim. Age is no excuse for racism, so shut the fuck and up and watch Lebron skullfuck Chris Kaman as he dunks all over him.

Being a white basketball player, I do not like this. I want steroids for my football players, baseball players and WWE Rassler’s, and I want brothers on my basketball team. Sorry white dude. I see your point, but all I can say is practice the jumper. Only hope you have.
So all black university’s are OK (along with every team John Thompson ever coached at Georgetown), but all white basketball leagues are not?

Josh & Joel– “all black” universities haven’t been all black since 1964, when the Civil Rights Act was passed. They’re still majority black, but there’s no racial requirement. There’s about as many whites at those universities as there are blacks at state schools.
Double standards? So, there must be someone, somewhere, founding a blacks-only b-ball league that we’re somehow blessing. You people are seriously stupid. First of all, no one is saying this should be prohibited. They’re saying the guy’s a racist (who may not even realize he’s a racist). If it was the quality of play he was worried about, then he’d be starting a league where the rules were different — not a league that’s race-limited. And, as an aside, there are no “all black” colleges. There are predominantly black colleges. I know that’s a difficult concept for you, but if you think until it hurts you might see the difference. I think it’s a dumb idea. No way should they have a bball league or of any sports just for a certain “color” or race. I know there are all-black schools (Ontario, Canada) because they want to emphasize on black history (due to the lack of that in regular public schools).
THAT was a horrible idea. Why? Let’s be honest, for e.g. if the “white” people start something for all-whites, they’re racist (or majority of the “black” — or whatever appropriate name — will agree to that). If the Black people start something of their own, who’s out there to say anything? really not a lot. I’m not for/against any race but looking at the big picture, it has been like that post-slavery. Many people should just let the past go and move on.

HBCU’s, Negro Baseball League, and even BET was created because Blacks were NOT ALLOWED by whites to enter those arenas. It was not made to exclude anyone. Howard University (a premier HBCU) was founded by white people and the first students were white. This league is looking to exclude people not provide and outlet for those kept out. It is obviously racist. I’ll like to see what competition comes out of this.
I’m planning on starting an all black hockey league up here in Canada, lets see how that idea flys up here!

Ya gotta be kidding. For one thing, it’s probably illegal under the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which I’m old enough to remember was fought long and hard for by people of goodwill of all colors.
Could I play in that league? My skin’s rather light, but my pop wasn’t white enough for the brownshirted thugs roaming the streets of Vienna, nor were my friends white enough for the Irish and Italian ruffians of Brooklyn.
Anyway, fundamental basketball? Not the streetball of the NBA? No thanks, I LIKE the high-flying, slam-dunking, elbow-swinging hoops of the NBA of the ’80s and ’90s. BEFORE David Stern brought in all those wimpy East Europeans, most of whom are (sssshh) white.

The funny thing is, there are leagues like this with similar rules in place already. When I lived in Los Angeles I played in an Asian league. Each team was allowed 2 non Asian players per team, and there were height restrictions based on race. If you were white you could be no taller than 6’1 and if black no taller than 6′ (don’t ask me) The kicker was there was no height restriction if you were Asian.
I am white, so before being able to play, I had to be measured before my first game and the other team managers had to approve of me being added to a roster. The crazy thing is the league is run by a white guy! I joked with some friends that if anyone ever tried to start a “white only” league it would cause an uproar and the only supporter would probably be Don Imus.

Accept these FACTS and you will start to experience REALITY instead of the fairy-tale you exist in currently. For example, are whites EQUAL to blacks in natural athleticism and agility? As a rule, no. Blacks, as a rule, have superior athletic abilities when compared to whites. On the other hand, are blacks EQUAL to whites intellectually? As a rule, no. Blacks are inferior to whites in this department. Can’t independently maintain civilization without white man’s help, few inventions, few mathematicians & scientists, etc…. Remember, facts cannot be racist. Facts are just pure, hard, indifferent facts.

you know this was absolutely funny up until the end with the deep south comment. jeeze man if your that dumb to think texas is more racist than the deep south you mite want to reevaluate the money you spent on community college. the deep south is the birth place of racisim. because my state is bigger than 2 to 3 of the south states combined it mite seem like there are more incidents of this but if you look back at history you will see the eastern deep south states are the staple of racism.

I dont have a problem with an all white league. I dont see it as racist, just equal fun. If its an all white league, we should only be allowed to shoot three- pointers, nothing else.
