Much to the dismay of Jon Gruden and every other NFL sportscaster, Brett Favre didn’t win the MVP award this year – Peyton Manning did with an overwhelming 37.5 of 50 possible votes. It’s his fourth.
For the 12th straight season Manning, 33, started all 16 games for the Colts. He has not missed a start since the Colts made him the No. 1 overall pick in the 1998 draft. Manning threw for an even 4,500 yards in 2009 — the second-highest total of his career, behind a mark of 4,557 in 2004 — along with 33 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. He finished second to Houston’s Matt Schaub (4,770) for yards passing, and in a second-place tie with Favre for TD passes, one behind Brees.
Manning’s QB rating of 99.9 was good for sixth in the league.–Fanhouse.com
Drew Brees, Brett Favre, and Philip Rivers were all strong candidates, but Rivers’ slow start & Brees’ weak finish ultimately took them out of the running. What took Brett Favre out of the running, you may ask? With him single-handedly being responsible for every yard, field goal, and touchdown the Vikings gained it’s really hard to say. Though Minnesota fans will probably tell you it rhymes with “Rad Hildress”.

Finally Peyton’s some recognition.
It’s still real to me DAMNIT!!!!!!!
Gandi once said, “Whatever one does in his life is insignificant, but you should do it anyways.” This describes your blog to a tee. Your right, Brett didn’t win MVP, but he should have. Like Peyton, Brett has played in every game for 12 years, plus seven more. Everytime Brett starts a game, wins a game, throws a pass, completes a pass throws a TD, or throws for another yard, he breaks a record, his own. Brett and Peyton were tied with three MVP’s a piece. I have a feeling Peyton is kind of embarrassed as Brett would be, to win an MVP that should have absolutely been shared. If you don’t kill the king, then the best you can do is share the MVP award. Brett is the King of the Pass until Peyton breaks his records, not the other way around. When Peyton is 40 years old and passes Brett in all categories, I will give him his due. Until then, Brett is the League MVP and Peyton is MVP in Training. Finally, Brett did this all while playing at Lambeau Field, outside, in the cold, not in a dome. We’ve all seen what Brett could have done in the dome this year, 107 passer rating and went 8-0. And that is playing in a dome for one year, not 12 like Peyton. Put Peyton in Lambeau and he is just average – Remember the game in San Diego a few years back in weather, Peyton sucked – Brett played every year for 17 years in that kind of weather and broke all the records that matter. So, it doesn’t really matter if a bunch of ASS Press guyes vote for Peyton, Brett is the NFL MVP until Peyton or someone else breaks all of his passing records.
You seem to be confused on what the MVP award is, Vincent T. Its not based on overall career stats, its the MVP for that particular season. You don’t have to break records to win it, you play football better than everyone else for a season.
Brett rules :)
