Just to put this out there but isn’t plausible that the tear gesture is Goldy being sad the player didn’t shake his hand? I mean, what do you usually see a mascot doing? Mimicking his surroundings. He didn’t see the player making the sign of the cross, just kneeling down. He decided to emulate it and then tried to get a hand shake at the end. When the player burned him, he was sad, hence the tear.
